...I decided to contact sky to see whether or not I could blag myself a free hub as a long standing customer, as I read in the comments on the thread above that others had.

Great news! The customer service agent I spoke to informed that as well as the free wi-fi booster offer (which starts tomorrow and runs until 30/01/14) from 26/12/13 (Boxing day) they'll also be offering a brand new FREE HUB, via sky.com under the my offers section.

Really pleased I bothered to get in touch now, nice little touch from sky

I'll post a little snippet of my convo with them in the 1st post below...

what does the hub do? thanks

WOOHOO, check the small print, is their something in their that ties you to an extended contract, surely sky would do such an underhanded thing? Oh and the wireless of this monstrosity is appalling, auto apparently sets the router to N (but makes no mention of it), with 54G settings being obvious). Expect nothing more than around 20mbps on an N connection while right on top of it, despite it theoretically being able to reach at least 150mbps (realistically probs about 80-100). In short, avoid like the plague, unless you like plague.

This is gonna go cold here I think, I would have probably to save some negatives from non Sky customers have posted this in freebies where I am sure it would have been received better.

Heat from me.

Never thought to do that mate. Any chance it could be moved?

If you already have the white sky hub the new black one just adds the sky fibre connectivity but not a lot else, it'll be further contract commitment to take up any 'free' offer for sure

Maybe so, however nothing of the sort was mentioned in my convo with them just now. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if this was the case, will just have to wait until the 26th & find out...

Great stuff, so with the black Sky box and HH5 I can lose the openreach box?

But is a HH5 going to work OK with Sky, I thought they were just for their own systems?

Many thanks for the heads up.

..12 months contract plus £2.18 delivery.

my 02 broadband has taken over by Sky from this month, I've been paying £14.50/month only for internet, I am thinking to find a deal in the market.

Hotttttttt

You may not be to bothered about the internet speed over your wireless, however imagine how that poor wireless would affect file transfer from and too other netowork devices on your network either sharing this v poor wireless, or hard wired and bottle necked by the poor wireless speed.

Link to the deal?

I recently subscribed to sky a couple of months ago with sky fibre but I received the white box. was I supposed to receive the black one? and what's the difference?

I'm having nothing but. trouble with my sky bb, will give this a try, but very much doubt it'll help: /

Call them to cancel and say you are going to Tesco and they will offer you phone, TV and broadband for £15/month. Theirs happened to me last month.

I'd be interested in this as long as it doesn't mean you have to extend your Sky broadband contract for another 12 months!

The SR102 (black) was issued from November onwards, in just drops the need for the additional vDSL modem (so 1 mains plug free) and is black instead of white. The white SR101 advantage over the SR102 is that it will not cause DLM to start each time on a reboot (so no speed loss) but the black will

Anybody else think this will be either or? If you get the signal booster (due today) they wont offer the Sky Hub come boxing day?

sky want to charge me £69 for the box

I cant see why it wouldn't if you had your login credentials which should be stored in the hub sky issue, but good luck getting that information from sky as I am pretty sure they claim its against their terms of service, which is just plain bizarre if you have a reason to use your own modem.

You can extract the details from an SR101 so you can use a different router but you can't with an SR102. As for the home hub 5 you can't use that with Sky broadband

Is it really worth going for then, this new black router? I have an old sagemcom one atm...

The new hub? Deal starts the 26th mate, & is only for existing customers

I've just contacted Sky to upgrade to Sky Sports for £1 a month extra for 6 months (£14 pm thereafter) - cool! You can cancel giving 1 months notice so thats an excellent deal. I asked about the WiFi booster and that's not available until the 27th NOT today as previosuly mentioned.

So is it possible to use the SR102 with the BTO modem? Like the Sagemcom routers and the SR101?
That way I can reboot/power off the router without worrying about losing speed...
