Free Sky MINI wifi connector NOW USB POWERED & NO ETHERNET

I know this will go cold but I don't care if it helps someone, Sky have finally made the new mini wifi connector USB powered, the photo is the one my installer brought this morning, he said they only came out today.

It says £21.95 on the website but as far as I can tell, free for all and it even says "free gift" on the box, I'm sure they will send you one too if you call up.

Probably giving these away to stop folk demanding the new Sky box with wifi built in that is out later this week.

BTW the plug on the pic is just so you can see how small it is, the device powers off the USB port on your Sky box.

•Size : Just under 90mm x 55mm x 20mm
•2 LEDs (Power, Wireless)
•1 button (WPS)
•Socket for Micro-B USB
•Supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz at up to 300mbps

not free for me

I called to try and get a 2nd one for my other box but was told they are free to movies customers or "by invitation" and the lady said a lot of invites are still going out in the post so who knows what the actual criteria is. I'm sure if you threaten to leave you'll get one for free.

knowing sky, there give f all to know one.
They won't even give me a new n router. They gave me the crapy sagem one. Lucky for me I used the hack to decrypt there user id. So using third party which won't the best, but works a treat compared to skys crap

how are you meant to get it free?? says £21.95 for me

I had same here a while back with their crappy router, rang to say the wifi was hopeless and they wouldn't send me a new modem, so I daisy chained with a Ethernet cable into another modem with better signal.

I told them I would leave as soon as my contract was up (which I did) and then retentions said they would give me a new modem, to which I said no thanks as they had their chance at the beginning.

not free for me either.

So where does everyone fit everything, if you have the On Demand box, the NOW TV box and this mini WiFi box? oO

I had the offer through the post ,I applied but up to 3 month for delivery !

I received a letter from sky in the post today and it says "free gift" and to call sky and they will send it out.

I managed to register for one through the Sky website, visit sky.com/mys…st/ and there should be a advert at the bottom of the page to "Register now for your free OnDemand connector". Make sure you login first or the advert won't be there.

Yes ... going to have to wait ' up to three months ' ....

Have some heat for sharing the info

So if you call sky and get lucky you might be able to blag a free one, unless they've sent you a letter offering you one anyway. Sorry but not really a deal here is there, cold.

Something to note, the USB mini didn't work on my 890 HD box until I updated the Sky software, then connected, then powered the box on/off. It worked on my 2TB box right away.

I had sky installed last week and got the new box with wifi built in

It's good that it's USB powered at last, but a shame the USB port on the Sky boxes is dead so can't be used to power their own adaptor!!

Edit - comment from snatch_master implys there has been a software update to finally activate the power to the USB port, which is good news if true

from the Sky website "You can claim a free wireless On Demand connector only if you meet all of the following conditions: 1. You recently received a letter from us about; 2. You’ve never connected to On Demand and 3. You have a compatible Sky+HD box."

I got a free gift card sent to the house for one of these but the wife threw it in the bucket thinking it was more #@! from sky doh!

I just set one of these up a few minutes ago. Wouldn't connect using wifi password, worked after I used WPS eventually.

My Dad got a new HD box sent out to him last week and I'm sure it's got a WPS button on the front of it? Does that mean he has built in wireless already?

From the sky website small print:

sky can go to hell

I asked for the box and they told me I would need to wait 3 months it arrived today after only 3 days I told the guy on the 'phone I could be dead in 3 months he said I'll see what I can do...... worth a try to pester them I think it's the only way, on another topic about sky my friend had problems paying her account not once but twice they waived the substantial arrears after she said she couldn't afford to pay the outstanding balance so if your face (voice fits) why not they are making millions from us....

I just had to order a 2TB Sky+HD 3D replacement for my old 250GB Sky+HD and it says "on demand" on the front...but there's no WPS or anything mentioned in the accompanying booklet I ordered one of the "free" wireless routers about 6 weeks ago...still not here..."being sent out from early August" (_;)

I couldn't claim thru any of the above routes but thanks for posting this. I didn't know they were upgrading HD boxes to include built in wifi (except if you're a current customer) and it's useful to know.

Thanks! I did exactly as you mentioned and it worked like a charm. Only bad news is that it will take upto 3 months to get it!

As for the initial deal link on this page, that didn't work and was asking to pay. But if you just sign in and follow the above comment from nemilho then it will work.
