Free Sky Q upgrade - sky Q 1TB box installation for existing customers, VIP member Email

399
Expires on 25/06/2020Available: NationalPosted 28th Jan
Hi all, received an Email from sky offering me a free sky Q box installation as a VIP member (13 years ish). Upon further investigation this offer was for a 1TB box with no requirement for a Sky experience/multiroom subscription (I only have one box/TV) and it allowed me to keep my existing package and discounts. The best bit is, as confirmed by chat, there is no change to my contract date - so I can cancel in June and all is good.

Might be worth checking your inbox.

I have been one for 7 years and I have never "left" them. I just cancel 30 days before and wait for the offers. Normally pay around 50-65% of the advertised prices. I don't see the need to cancel and change names etc.

Note that Q hardware remains the property of Sky. If you leave, they want it back.
The upside is that if it dies, it's on them to replace it, not you.

Nope I haven’t received anything and I’ve been with them for about 7 years, I would go for this offer but haven’t received it.

If you get a good deal, it is sometimes better or the same to stay

Sky Q is a new 18 month contract

I have never had Sky Q on an 18 month contract and I have had it since around 6 months after launch.

18 months now and they won't budge

Not an issue if they offer 18 month deals, which I now suspect they do judging by the letter I got last week with with pre-emptive offers once my current term expires. It offered discounts on Q, Boxsets, Multiroom, all for 18 months.
I got this deal yesterday, no contract and as op stated kept original discounts, only downside there was a 3 month wait for installation.

Sky Q is a new 18 month contract

Indeed, it is normally 18 months however there is no contract change on this deal and it is aligned with my current end date.

Couldn't believe it as been trying to get Sky Q sorted for ages now but it would have A) cost me money to install B) cost me £10-13 a month for experience that I don't need and C) tie me in for 18 months when all my offers would fall off - so this negates all 3 in one go.

Probably right, but always had a decent deal to stay so, hopefully, not too bad off with them.
Good offer, but it's hard to get used to, still struggling after a few months myself.
Mainly upgraded for the apps and accessibility of sky store offers etc, but the actual TV and Guide is a nightmare at times.
If you're a technophobe you might wanna consider sticking with the Sky+.
Contract with sky ends tomorrow anybody suggestions what’s the best thing to do like use a cash back app or get better deal

Are you sure about it not extending your contract? When I click through from the email it says "Same monthly TV package. New 18-month minimum terms apply."

It's actually interesting timing because I am looking at moving from SkyHD at the moment and have been trying to make up my mind between Sky Q, Virgin or just going with Now (I already have Amazon and Netflix) and I'm out of contract. Currently paying £37.50 for box sets, HD and Cinema but my concern is that when that expires in November I'm stuffed if I'm still in a contract.

I’d hardly call this an upgrade over the old 1tb TB boxes tb

What's wrong with it? I was just about to pull the plug until I read this comment lol.
Without a 4k/UHD subscription what does a Sky Q box offer over the Sky+ box as we have been offered this too. I’m always hesitant to change anything when things are working fine.

Nothing - it is a brilliant interface once you get used to it. Also a voice search that also works.

Record up to 3 shows on 1TB and 6 on 2TB whilst watching another
Seamless Multiroom/Sky Go
Bluetooth Remote so can be hidden in cupboard/behind TV without ir blasters
Much quicker and responsive box, boots quicker, faster/slicker menus
Voice Search
The extra mini boxes are be good, tho extra subscription. No wires is a godsend
Would like 1 mini box for a difficult to get at room. Currently a 2TB customer.
Not received any email from Sky also got all channels apart from sport.
Been with them 12yrs never moved and the funny thing is my contract finishes June to.
i also have the Sky VIP.
Never had much off of sky all the years we have been with them even down to the boxes and router we have bought our self apart from the first lot when we signed up only had a few discounts on what we pay like now we paying £85 instead of £100

To be honest we are thinking of moving to virgin when contract runs out the wifi in our house is terrible.
So, if you take this offer but not the "experience" do you just pay the same as you're paying now?
I received the e-mail and I'm tempted. Might contact them and see how much it would be to upgrade to the 2TB box for the 4K content.

You have to have Sky Q Experience for 4k which is essentially multi room. You don't have to have the mini boxes (think you get at least 1 free anyway) but you need this add on package.
Just been on live chat for an hour had the offer ready but the Sky Q is a brand new 18 month contact so when your current tv subscription discounts end they have you corned.

I usually get 50% off all packages when its renewal time but I am sure if I took the SKY Q offer, come May I would not of got anywhere near that.

I will wait until my current sub is running out and see what retention's can offer.

You need to argue harder, and actually cancel at the end of your contract (you can always cancel the cancellation if they don't come through with some good offers). I never pay more than about 60% either.

Current deal is Sky Q 2TB, 2 * mini-boxes, sky sports HD, movies, entertainment, kids, ultimate on demand, Sky HD, line rental, super fast broadband, and Netflix 4K/4 screens (cheaper to pay through Sky than it is direct to Netflix), for £85.

New 18 month deal not including Neflix which I can cancel at any time. Why people are moaning about a longer contract is beyond me - I'd take longer if I could, to make the conversations that are necessary at the end of the contract, less frequent!

I didn't think the 1TB boxes were 4k though- do they have new ones?
This is very good deal if you can get it, Sky Q is excellent product by Sky.

You need to fight harder for your discounts, I been with them 17 years and I pay £52 a month for all channels, multi room and Netflix

If I was you, I'd call sky up to confirm that it won't trigger a new contract. They'll still be able to apply your vip offer over the phone.

when asked still need a hand say yes, then click no to prefer to look online for help the live chat box and call us box will appear - I had to wait 5 mins for the red button to turn green.
Just do not do it if you want to watch in a different room without additional charge or hassle.
Magic Eye does not work with Sky Q and you will be charged for mini boxes and a subscription.

Of course the workaround is a HDMI switch and long HDMI cable.

Yes, I got Sky entertainment pack effectively for £12 a month + price increases and new install in a different room (so I can use Freeview Sky HD boxes). 2 x £100 Mastercard reward = £200 off.

Then again they did offer £13 to continue. So loss is minimal at £12 year.
