Council wasting money again, which idiot though of that idea, then around next week they will cut services because they have no money or maybe put council tax up.

You're right of course. They should just let the elderly fall over. Far cheaper to send an ambulance and two paramedics, have it sit outside casualty for a couple of hours, and then have to send in district nurses and home helps for a few weeks.

I don't think the elderly should be going out in this wether maybe the council could check in in drop there food off too the elderly who haven't got any family or neighbours around to look out for them instead of giving out free shovels is quite a expensive and wasteful cost when filling up grit bins would be more efficient and effective 5kg of salt hardly going clear the roads and pavements is it unless they having the shovels back then fair enough.

I can wipe my own nose, thanks.

And this is about people taking responsibility for their own lives and their neighbours, just the Council giving them the tools for the job in return for their time and service to the community.

Yes, because paying people to call in, check on the elderly and do their shopping is going to be so much cheaper than giving out a pack that probably costs the council less than £5.

if they want to shovel a neighbour's path they don't need a hi-vis jacket, they can use a shovel from the shed & salt is unnecessary, it's all melting anyway

enough said but I wish councils would just cut their unnecessary costs (this being a prime example) so there's more money for Social Care

We don't have a salt shed near by we can safely get to, living on a slope, a through road and up a dark unlit entry, I think a hi vis is a great idea in case anyone slips in the road, it's pitch black when I go to work in the morning. All for a good cause if it saves accidents. x

They got plenty of workers and food already which was supposed to be for schools I'm sure they can it wouldn't cost any extra to send the teachers cleaners who will still be paid for there jobs. And half the food will probably need throwing away which would incur extra costs. Etc you know what I mean
Local residents? Shame I wanted a free Shovel, Salt and High Visibility Jacket, not because I need it but because it's FREE
