Free "Social" GPS for iPhone/Android

Found 25th Feb 2010
Waze is a social mobile application providing free turn-by-turn navigation based on the live conditions of the road.
100% powered by users, the more you drive, the better it gets. Join the community of drivers in your area today!

The UK is still in "building stage" which means drivers are currently "building" the GPS network. After this stage, the data will become reliable as more and more users submit data, and others can benefit by using this data. The system also appears to remember traffic flows to help you avoid unnecessary delays to your journey.

Seems like a good idea to me.

This seems quite bizarre, at present my home town looks like a 3 year old drew it with a crayon! However, it already has some details such as an average speed on one of the roads.
Yeah I think the average speeds are calculated based on the speeds of current drivers on those roads (those using the app of course). Sometimes you can actually see individual cars who have elected for their positions and speeds to be shown- - They seem to show as happy or sad cars depending on their current road conditions which is quite cool. This might help say if you were in a log tail back you can see how far away the point is where the traffic speeds up again.
What a great idea, this definately deserves a download......
what are the costs when you are using this , i have unlimited internet on my phone
Thanks OP - downloaded it as well. Looks quite neat and once it is used by a lot of people I guess the maps will become more and more accurate.
seems a little glitchy and odd - so do you just turn on the new road recording, and drive?

how do you name the roads and such?

May need a little more work still...
Doesn't appear to actually work properly yet
It's the sort of application that requires people to use it before its actually usable. However, it's been available in the US for quite a while, and it works well over there.
My nearest event is in Wembley 105km away and the furthest is over 1500km away! I like it though so I will give it some time and input some new roads.

Thanks for sharing, I only come on here now for cool iPhone apps and utilities.
