About this deal

Offering free access to the leisure centres started a few years ago. I was reading a recent newsletter from the council today, and it was mentioned there again. I thought I would share this as well, maybe some can benefit from it.
It’s easy to register, and you can use the facilities for free during the highlighted time.

Southwark borough residents are now able to use the swim and gym facilities for free in six of the borough’s leisure centres, operated by Everyone Active in partnership with Southwark Council. Registration is now open for Free Swim and Gym.

WHEN IS THE OFFER AVAILABLE?
  • Friday 6:00am – 10:00pm (subject to programmes and timetables)
  • Saturday 2:00pm – 5:30pm (subject to programmes and timetables)
  • Sunday 2.00pm – 9:30pm (subject to programmes and timetables)
  • Over 60s can take part in any Silver sessions free
  • Disabled residents will be able to use all leisure centres for free seven days a week

WHY IS SOUTHWARK COUNCIL OFFERING FREE SWIM & GYM?
We’re investing in the health of our residents. Over the last decade the council have put almost £50m worth of investment into leisure facilities in the borough and we are continuing to prove our commitment to getting Southwark active with this scheme.

We believe the best way to be proactive about health and wellbeing is by prevention, by making it easier for people to make healthier choices and to achieve a more active lifestyle.

Glad to see this back , this initiative should be taken up by other councils who are undoubtedly struggling to balance the books but this in the long run helps public health and reducing long term health issues

This is good for people living in Southwark, my local council (Richmond) are charging over £8 for their pools which I think is extortionate, it’s actually cheaper for me to swim in David Lloyds everyday.

Mental I pay 30 quid a month for unlimited council swimming in south Essex, and that's 2 sites both with decent recently upgraded facilities. No doubt after writing this they will put the price up!

My leisure centre was (fiercely contested) changed form council to, guess what , Everyone Active. Now more expensive with no real improvements, the circle of life I suppose. But they do really care about our health, they said so.
