On October 26, 2010, a judge of the Federal Court of the United States issued a permanent injunction which in effect forced the closure of LimeWire by preventing the searching, downloading, uploading, file trading and/or file distribution functionality of the Limewire software.
Despite the court's assertion that the Limewire software is used primarily to violate copyrights of filmakers, musicians, and other artists; or that its continued existance would be detrimental to the survival of the movie and music industry; some artists (such as those representing this site) actually support the use of Limewire software.
As artists, it is our belief that the free distribution of music and film not only allows performers to reach greater audiences. But it also allows audiences to discover new music to which they might not have otherwise been exposed. This means shutting down Limewire, hurts artists just as much (if not more) as it hurts them.
If you feel strongly about the need for artists and individuals to be able to spread files freely without government interference. We ask that you sign the following petition. To further show your support, we will be providing all who sign the petition a free tshirt to wear to show their support.

Although ideally we hope that this petition will result in the end of the injunction against Limewire. Realistically we hope that it will raise awareness of the need for other P2P sharing softwares to stay open.

I think he meant Becky that the program when it was installed and running on your computer was full of viruses, not the link you have supplied for the free T-Shirt! :o)

Yes, do that! Pirate music so we can not pay for something that someone put work into - that will really help.

No disrespect to the OP but I agree with this assessment!

I've tried this many times over the months. Where it reads 'while stocks last', replace it with 'stocks lasted 24 days' and find another t-shirt freebie before stocks run out!

LimeWire now lives on in FrostWire and LimeWire Pirate Edition.

They are both better than the original with the junk removed and pro features installed.

Well the loss of LimeWire is a set back keep in mind they did make a lot of profit from piracy. Better they stay dead in my view.

sent off for this in the mother in laws address just in case its a police/goverment sting operation to catch illegal downloaders names and addresses......;)

Get used to disappointment

to be fair its like movie pirating these billion dollar companies cry about loss of revenue when cinema takings are at a all time high more profitable then anytime before, same with music artists they make millions of dollars touring and selling a healthy amount of records yet they still cry about it

I fail to see how the fact they may be making money justifies stealing their content, which would be awesome if you could back up with figures by the way. Oh, Richard Branson has made loads of money so I expect to just be able to walk on a plane and get a free ride. Or perhaps - let's take a popular game. GTA has sold loads, and developers have made profits that other people have provided by paying for it, I shall now proceed to take the game from my local retailer. How about Harry Potter, she's got 'enough' money from it - I'll take that book!

Money which they wouldn't make if everyone pirated their material. Would you like to develop a product that people would be willing to buy, only to have people on public forums advocating obtaining it illegally, in a manner where you'd see no profit from it?

Do you work? That's not a slur, just a genuine question. What if your employer decided you'd earned enough money now, and decided to stop paying you?
