Free Tea or Coffee every day at every Waitrose

This started in Oct 2012 (I think), and I've been doing it since then! A long runner but hasn't been posted for a while. Just sign up for their card, either scan yourself on self-scan or at the till, get given a cup, and go and fill it. Many branches now have "bar stool" type arrangements, such as the 2 in Manchester centre and Croydon. Some big stores like Westfield Stratford City in London, have actual tables and chairs for free coffee customers to use. The coffee isn't amazing but is OK. Real milk for tea, not UHT, is a big advantage over some cheaper coffee options. Some branches have it in a stainless steel flask, others a button on the machine for "cold milk portion".

Should be in Freebies. Clue is in your title.

Also, please don't advertise this as we don't want the rabble coming into Waitrose for free hot drinks.

Pretentious puffery aside, how could this possibly be cold?

I think you have to buy something each time you visit Waitrose for a coffee. Only then will the cashiers give you an empty cup for you to fill....if I not mistaken

You don't need to buy anything. Only in the sit down cafes, and that can be a small item, see the op's other post

Thanks for reminder- I like being a waitrose customer

I'd totally forgotten, there are indeed 8 stores in the south doing a trial of buying anything to get the coffee free, i.e. no minimum spend: Mountsorrel, Billericay, Bury St Edmunds, Clifton, Leigh-on-Sea, Norwich, Southend and Swaffham. All other stores it's still totally free.

My wife and I do this but what I find silly is that, at least in our store, you have to go to the self checkout till and each put your 'my waitrose' card in and purchase a coffee, which of course then comes up as free. In the past this would generate a till receipt which you then showed to the assistant to get your cup, but now there is no receipt given. Why not just allow the assistant to see your card to get the cup?.

I agree this is frustrating, but it's one per day. The system will only let you have one.

The Canary Wharf waitrose does free coffee of any type with any purchase at the coffee bar, so I usually get a flat white and two pieces of fruit for about 90p or a pain-au-chocolat for 85p.

Because you could go back again and again. Maybe open up a coffee shop outside?

Simple - just sign up for several Waitrose cards under different names at the same address.

In most Waitrose cafes if you just ask for a large latte or cappacino all you pay is 30p or you can buy a banana for about 25p and your drink is completely free.

All you have to do is to ask for a cup with a member card, no purchase required except for some stores but after a while, especially if you are English and the Waitrose counter staff is East European at the same counter, ( a fictitious scenario and bears no resemblance or likeness to real characters) then you look a bit like :-

Pretty soon I believe they will be introducing a minimum spend everywhere to get your coffee. Also all drinks come with a miserable face and attitude from the partners as they don't like to give anything away, only if you are spending a fortune on a basket of shopping.

in Stratford, Finchley John Barnes, Ealing, Bluewater you just go to the customer serve desk and simply ask for a cup. Where as if you go to the cake section you have to buy something.

Good to see they have a consistent policy.

At Wimbledon there is this girl who literally ties to skim off Waitrose........she NEVER buys anything ( I know as we both come in at the same time everyday and use the same train) and always takes an extra shot of milk in her Latte.

It's true it is not consistent UK wide but they are not obligrd to even give free cuppa, the way it is going they might even scrap it all together....

Really, how do you know? Your may lack key facts
Scenario A
1/ At Wimbledon there is this girl who get a cup of coffee in the morning, on her way home, she spends £20 shopping at Waitrose for her dinner with her husband. She is not going to take all this shopping to work.
Scenario B
1/ At Wimbledon there is this girl who get a cup of coffee in the morning, at the weekend she spends £200 shopping at the big Waitrose by the Wimbledon railway tracks. She is not going to take all this shopping to work.

Real life scenario: We get on and off the same train everyday. I am always behind her at the queues as I always pick up and buy something while she zooms past by taking a cup.

Any more questions Watson?

The three nearest Waitroses to me insist on seeing a receipt before a customer services assistant hands you a paper cup to go to the machine. (The "free newspaper" requires a spend of £10 now.)
