Cheers shows retail is getting tight
Hope that is clear for you now
That clear enough??
We've just made the title a bit clearer. It is the service (click and collect) itself which is free. There has (to my knowledge anyway) always been a minimum spend for this.
Free to pick up my shopping, bonus

Free for someone to accrue your shopping for you that you subsequently collect, but I expect you already knew that

On an aside, how are others finding Tesco these days for including late date items? We used to have deliveries but some of the ‘fresh’ produce we received was very much on its last legs and clearly they were glad to rid of it. It went on for weeks and may have been a local issue of course. In the end we switched mostly to Ocado with their ‘just in time’ system and whilst not perfect (crushed loaves, and perishables in bags with household cleaner), it’s been better in terms of use-by dates.
Anyone know when the next new customer offer will be like there was in December?

Yes I found this happening too & also stopped ordering with Tesco for now. Switched to Sainsbury's as I had a new account £20 off.. I found them better by far than Tesco.
awesome, I have ordered

I do click and collect at Argos, that's always free

Yes. That’s because Argos picking the item(s) you have reserved from stock is the same amount of time and effort for them whether you are in store when the do it or are coming in later to collect. They actually pick the stock you reserved only when you arrive.

Conversely, a full grocery shop order picked and packed ready for you to collect by someone employed to do that job is more expensive to Tesco (in this scenario) than you coming in to pick your own shopping.

You are not comparing like for like.

Yeah, some stores have a £40 minimum, there’s a list somewhere on the Tesco website - ours is one of them, too
