BBC are uploading more films onto their iPlayer system so you can watch them as often as you like for one week after broadcast. This week has:
National Tresure 2: Book of Secrets, (until 15-01)
The Weatherman, (until 14-01)
The Incredibles, (until 15-01)
Smart People (until 10-01)

You do not need a TV licence to watch internet BBC programmes that are on demand, only for live streams or nearly live broadcasts. So you're okay with these.

Nope. The government don't pay for the BBC...

I pay UK tax but don't pay a penny to the BBC.

True, TV licence is not a tax, you can opt out. But there is value for money in there, considering all the various services provided.

As an aside fact, if you are a BBC employee, it is an immediate dismissal if you don't have a TV licence.

Well at least an iplayer post which didnt just shoot straight to hottest deal but went COLD instead..

Ok, it's almost a tax though isn't it? Own a TV pay up or else.

It would be nicer if in this digital age if all the BBC channels were part of Top Up TV or similar? Then people could watch ITV, C4, etc. and then only choose to subscribe to BBC if they wanted to. This would do away with the need for license.

But, I realise that the "unique way" in which the BBC is funded does bring some great TV. And the stuff on terrestrial TV is of far higher quality, on balance, than all the satellite TV offerings in my personal opinion.

The internet and other methods of acquiring video are rendering the current TV licence obsolete. I think the Government is going to review it in 2016. After all, you can buy an internet TV which could handle BBC iplayer and You Tube, but you can't opt out of the TV licence if you wanted to.

But I still voted hot as the iplayer is inherently hot.

'Oh yes there is!' Just can't see why people don't simply check what films are on iPlayer themselves rather than rely on HUKD posts....bbc.co.uk/ipl…lms
Ooo, quick, 'Men who stare at goats' has been added so I better start a new thread !!

Edited by: "scrimpersdelight" 10th Jan 2011

i still think this is a great thread and don't know why it gets so much stick. i probably wouldn't know about the decent free movies on iplayer if people didn't post them here.

Also the men who stare at goats is on

Why would someone who works in the bbc not watch live tv? Whats the whole point of working in the industry then?
