Lost your legs or any other debilitating lifelong condition that’s been caused by your service? This is for veterans who through their service have been severely disadvantaged in life hence war pension or lifelong compensation payment receivers. It’s not just all veterans.
Not a veteran but hot. Lots of respects to anyone who has done their bit for our country, there should be more schemes like this.

They ‘played soldiers, waived guns around and made violent choices’ so that morons like you could post stupid remarks on sites such as these without fear or punishment. I’m left wondering whether they did the right thing! #loser

I fall into the latter category, how does one go about applying for this? Thanks for the heads up!

No problem, the below information is copied from the website

How to apply?

You fill out an application form to apply for a Veterans Oyster photocard. Call us on 0343 222 1234 (call charges may apply) to get your form.

Complete and return your form with:

  • A photocopy of your Awards Notification or annual uprating letter from Veterans UK or the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency (dated in the last two years)
  • A passport-sized full-face photo including your head and shoulders. Don't wear anything that covers your head unless worn for religious or medical reasons
Arrrhhh.....I would have applied if I was a residing in london.

Excellent stuff from TfL.Our veterans deserve this and more.
The least we can do for those who’ve served. Heat!
What about armed forceful veterinarians?
Not really my thing, but I personally think that this is very the least the country should do for them. Especially those who have seen action.

Heat

They auto renew it to. They were super helpful when I called up about it. You don't have to live on London to apply.

No why? we all work hard and pay taxes can we all have free travel???
Americanisation of everything military - " thank you for your service"

say it to the police, nurses, ambulance staff and the rest of those that serve the societies.

Public transport is free in some countries like Luxembourg. In UK, public transport is a complete rip off ! Overcrowded trains rarely on time, overcrowded tube, soiled seats, soiled carpets, smelly buses and people are rude enough not to offer seats to elderly, women and children. Yet the fares have been going up every year without fail.

They may have done, they are only human.
The world is not all sunshine and roses, they still have a vital role to play and the role they play as a collective is altruistic. Syria, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone - their actions save lives and although you may see this as a playing soldiers, they contribute to the stability of the world where people who make non violent choices can make non violent choices.

Please don't labell all lefty liberals as being anti military or unpatriotic. I personally cannot imagine what these people go through and their families. They can both join for adventure and as a job and yet still be respected for the untold horrors that many of them face in action while their families wonder if they will get that knock on that door.

Watch Foxy's War on that lefty channel 4 and you will see how caring they are even though some may lose their souls in the fog of war.

Can we get to normal sensible conversations. Not saying stop debate but have some empathy with each other.

I know this is a wind up, you obviously know that without the sacrifice of the life and limb of our brothers and sisters you would not be able to post those words on the internet without fearing for your own liberty, don't you?

If you honestly think that joining the Army, Navy or RAF is about money then you are gravely mistaken, in terms of salary, how much is a foot or leg or arm or multiple limbs or life worth? 20000 a year? get real!

What a pity. We are getting drowned in taxes in UK and these thugs in EU are having freebies on our hard earned money.

In Germany children up to age of 16 travel for free on public transport including trains as long as they’re traveling with their parent(s). In UK, for children over 5 years their parents have to fork out big money on train tickets and bus tickets :/
It's not all veterans. Its injured veterans

Same in London almost. My daughter gets free travel on buses till she's 16, and for train fair it's less then half price. Basically went all the way across London for the day and it only costs her about £2.50 going on about 6 different underground trains for the day. Also helps I have a disability travel pass too so I get free travel on buses and trains. Just wish the veterans and nurses got this automatically

the year that a london travelcard went up from £7 something to £12 was, frankly, not just a rip-off, but evil.

Costs have risen impossibly, no wonder everyone is fare dodging now.

In yesterday’s newspapers it was mentioned UK ranks 29th among 31 European countries for maternity policy. UK has one of the worst policies for young parents according to UNICEF.

There is. And the BBC seen fit to deliberately target them as a new and viable source of revenue. Veterans, the infirm & elderly now have a solid choice come winter on their lavish pensions... And who needs food & warmth!?

There is a nice discount card we get aswell called DDS discounted, gives us cheaper holidays, eating out and electronics etc.

Misleading title. It is for SOME injured veterans
@chimpee There’s a good correlation between parenting and travel fare. If you have a kid(s) which is more than 5 years old and other kid is an infant, then poor maternity policies mean families with young children often struggle to afford public transport. Just check train fares and you’ll understand it better.

BBC TV license fees needs scrapping altogether. With so many options available like Netflix, Now TV, Amazon Prime Video, Rakuten, etc. we should no longer be paying license fees. BBC should fund itself through advertisements and cut the pay of top celebrities and management.

I'm a royal navy veteran and certainly didn't join up for the money. The money isn't great at all. I joined to serve for my country and I'm proud of that. Without our forces you would be lost.
Fully deserved for our brave lads and lasses who go where we wouldn't - and even better if it "offends" the loathsome hypocritical "lefties" infesting London (and esp BBC and media in general) these days

Okay then, let's stop recruitment and enforce national service...oh what's that tumbleweed34, you don't want to go to war? Tough.

Get off your high horse and go back to enjoying the freedom you have because of people like them!

Soldiers are not politicians.
