Talk talk is an awful ISP.

However, it's cheap and if you are just a casual user. Recommended.

can see manage my account under broadband only under land line and no option to upgrade??

No link for speed boost for me...oh well did see that they now do caller display for free so added that to my account...

Caller display - See who is calling before you answer £2.50

ok, found this:

Privacy Pack- Caller display - See who is calling before you answer Free

so if you're currently paying for caller id you need to switch...

TalkTalk have been very good for me. The only problem I had turned out to be outside the house which BT had to fix for free.

]How do I check if my line is eligible for Turbo Boost?

The Turbo Boost is available only if your exchange has been unbundled on the TalkTalk network (LLU) and you will benefit from it only if you can achieve download speeds of higher than 8MB. You must also have an ADSL2-compatible router.

To check the maximum possible download speed your line can handle, please carry out a broadband speed test. If your download speed is more than 8MB, the Turbo Boost may benefit you. We can activate it on your account within 48 hours.

Alternatively, you can sign in to My Account and check the availability of the Turbo Boost in the Manage My Services area. There you'll find your current download speed and whether the Turbo Boost will benefit you. You can also activate the Turbo Boost in My Account. It will take up to 48 hours to be activated.

(Just tested mine it came out at 3.9MB so not for me alas)

I wouldn't touch Talk Talk with the proverbial barge pole. Very poor customer services. I switched to them from BT and didn't have a phone line for 6 months because of their amateurish ways.

Just sank in that it starts on January 1st - I'm eligible but would cost £4.00 per month at present so roll on 2010!! Thanks for the tip

Also grabbed the free Caller Display while I was looking at my account - Thanks rob585

After we eventually got connected (about 2 years ago) we've had no problems.

im with them no problems

Been with Talktalk for 3 years now...never had a problem.

I'm with Talktalk, terrible... looking to switch once contract runs out. Constantly cutting off landline and broadband and when I ring them from my mobile am told that they were unable to fix the problem until I rung in and reported it. Then take 24 hours to fix it. Then do it all over again a couple of months later. Their customer services sucks too. Hate em hate em hate em >

Nearly all isp's are the same now when it comes to having a problem. I have a had a few probs with talk talk bur they were resolved easily using the talktalk user forums.

Wish I could get the speed boost but only get 2.1 meg on an 8meg connection and I am lucky to have that. My exchange is enabled for 24 meg too but I am just too far away and I doubt it will ever be any better than what I have now.

Shame too as I am only 7 miles from Leeds center. No chance of cable getting here either by the look of it as they dont seem to be expanding the network any further:x

Thanks for the info. cant see the option for turbo boost though in manage my services, will this show from Jan?

Lucky you. I am about 3 miles from our exchange and its always been rubbish. though a friend of ours is another 2 miles from it and gets around 200k:shock:

21st century network my a s s:whistling:

Have found them terrific. Albeit a bit slow to get set up. However the best service I have had from an ISP and they actually answer the phone within about 5 minutes. Half the price of my previous supplier. Thanks to this posting I have now got the free caller display - why it's not there in the first place I don't understand. I found it very annoying for the past 3 months.

No problems here with TT, im on 8meg connection and it always maxes out pretty much 24/7

If anyone is having problems with speed, join there forums and ask to have your profile tweeked they will do that for you, i was getting about 6meg before they tweeked my profile.

Well i am an it pro and was a bit hesatant to go with talk talk but i was willing to give them a go as they are the only service in my area that suppilies 24 meg service.
To be honist they were super and it was all up and running within 5 days.
To top this their support on the members forums is the best support as their team is online and will answer any problems on the forums.

To start with i was at 15 meg sync and with the help of the support team i had them lower my snr level to 6 fastpath and now i get 22meg.
Also their is nice infomation and custom firmware for the netgears to allow for further snr tweaking.
It is never slow for me, and i have never been without a internet service, i do download alot with newsgroups and always get 22meg constant download speed.

Overall the service on the forums is excellent and at a cheap price for a 24meg service.

And now they are cutting the speed boost i will be saving £4 a month excellent.

Hot For me

The op says he is getting 50meg an ADSL2 I thought the max you could get was 24Mbit's ?

Hello all,

Sorry to hear about the problems some of you have had... I look after the members forum and urge any TalkTalk customers to visit us for any technical or billing support.

If you have any questions whilst i am on-line, let me know..

Regards
Stephen

Waj1234,

It could be that you and your friend have some interference in the line. There are a few basic things you can follow to try improving the speed.

1) Check that no equipment to the phone line is connected without an ADSL filter - Also make sure that the filter is working properly (can try replacing)
2) I have found that if you have a powerline ethernet adapter in use at home, it can seriously interfere with the broadband as well as wireless desktops (keyboard/mice)
3) Try to connect the router to the main socket at home to find out the best speeds you can get.

Hope this helps.

No interference just distance from exchange at blame and probably old cables at some point too.

We have only one phone on a new filter and the router is on the main socket with the bell wire removed the minute we moved in 5 years ago.

I have the best speed possible on my line without it being unstable. I did have faster but had sync issues which all went away as soon as the guy on talk talk members forum put me on a 2 meg profile.

So unless Bt builds a new exchange nearer to me or cable comes to my town it seems I am stuck where I am for some time.

Good for me I just had turbo boost switched on but only went up from 8 to 10 so i was going to switch it off, this way I save myself the hassle.

I've been with talk talk for 3 years now and work from home mainly working on web sites. I've been very happy with their service and compared to two other guys I work with who are both with BT I've had the least down time.

Their technical support is poor, you have to bypass the first level and get to someone higher up or just use their members forum instead. In fact if you want the best speed you must visit the members forum as it's the only way you will get your line set to the right speed.

The only thing I'd touch Talk Talk with I can't, as Saddam never let up where he'd hidden them!

I too had problems initially, but got 3 months free to compensate and things have been alright since and they are cheap. Just depends what you want:santa:

Been with them for about 3 years and had no problems and would recommend them.

I am unable to see the option either.

Is it because I am on the "Talk International Anytime Landline = Unbundled Broadband?" and I need to change to the "Essentials package?"

It's a little confusing:thinking:

so fast but still a mean 40gb monthly allowance?

would the users that get this free with their phone package as 8mbps connection get this too?

You cant upgrade until January folks

"would the users that get this free with their phone package as 8mbps connection get this too?"

Yes , instead of paying £4 for the boost it will be free

Be very weary of the free regrade offers for 24mb broadband, I am with a company that uses the same network and I must say it is the worst broadband experience I have had in the past 2 years, check the reviews before you make your choice folks otherwise you may find yourself locked into 12 months of the worst.

Its a free upgrade without strings like the free caller display offer recently

A free upgrade for my free broadband - fantastic!

Heat.

what I want?, reliable servie, at a sensible price, that doesn't require an unecesary landline, and isn't linked to a ten-faced lying tell you what you want promise you the earth & delvier mud cowboy outfit such as the carphone *****house.

and I got all the above from 3, with noticably faster surfing than i gained from homecall/pipex/whatever they're called this month I had in before, and better than the bt junk installed at work.

haven't used talk talk, may be good, but I've heard [plenty have problems, and I've dealt with CW once before, never again.

Me too, we have to switch to a more expensive package first which is £18.50 a month instead of £16 i'm paying now. To add international calling to 26 destinations it is £20.50, so an increase of £4.50 a month or £54 over the next year. iMHO, not worth it as the download limit remains the same, I'd rather pay £26.50 for talktalk pro (w/ landline) and get unlimited bandwith as well as the 24mbps speed.

So, i'm not going to change anything - talktalk has ben calling to renew my contract - no way unless I can get everything for £16 instead of £20.50

I've got a couple of mate who are with Talk Talk, they cannot wait until their contracts run out so they can move ISPs...I'm glad I've never had the unfortunate displeasure of being with them....

Just a quick note to those of you who are unsure of your current speed that you're getting from TalkTalk...I did the "Speed Boost" test on their site, and its saying my maximum speed is 3.22Mbps...which is utter rubbish as I regularly get over 4Mbps and I've seen over 5Mbps before on the line.

You can test your current speed at www.speedtest.net

i joined talk talk 2 year ago from orange, this was the best thing i have ever did in terms of saving money, increasing my broadband speeds and download speed. i went on a bill saving mission and halved my phone/internet bill which at the time was phenomenal in terms of money saving, admittedly some isp have had to catch up in terms of pricing but talk talk are always the first to make these moves and hence teething problems will occur. most of the stigma attached to them is because of the deal they done with free broadband, and even they admitted they couldn't cope with the high demand but thats sorted as far as i'm aware. free 24 meg is the way .TAKE NOTICE RIP OFF BRITAIN.

Okay, my router shows I'm synching at 17838kbps. But when I try speedtest.net and talktalks speed test it hits max 12 meg? Just wondering is that normal?
