I'm pretty sure MS are well aware that loads of people who don't use assistive technologies have upgraded using this method. The whole free upgrade for those who use assistive technologies was just a way for MS to say they stuck to their original statement that the free W10 upgrade was time limited, whilst still actually offering anyone who wanted to a way to upgrade for free.

MS have no interest whatsoever in preventing it from being "abused". They want people on Windows 10 and this is a handy way of letting people continue to do so without upsetting the industry.

Is installing a os file on first build via flash drive difficult?
Or is it as easy as boot from cd??

Pretty simple. Utilities such as Rufus will create a bootable USB installer from an OS install ISO file. rufus.akeo.ie/ Various other ways to achieve same goal.
I wish XP was included, or was available to upgrade at a heavily discounted price.

Don't trust those cheap Win10 keys available on eBay, although the one I did buy to try out is working fine so far (time will tell, if it turns out to be a MSDN key/similar, I'm stuffed!).

I'd rather stick an otter down my boxers than solely rely on Linux as it has very limited options for things like DAW usage.
For everyday home usage it should be fine.

You don't even need that, Microsoft has their own tool that downloads the imagine and slaps it on a USB stick.

Original question was related to "a OS", not necessarily Windows. The MS tool is Win-specific; Rufus creates bootable media from any suitable ISO, but as prev mentioned: various other ways to achieve same goal.
SHHHHH.

Went through their CEO's book last year - the did have a particular focus on this area. Maybe it's a best kept secret to carry it on.
You dont need a usb at all, Microsoft will download the install file while you still use the computer. Once it is ready you just start the process and it will install automatically. I completed this just before Christmas for my Farther in law, who at 89 needs the assisted technology

How does that work when you don't have an OS installed then?

Microsoft are worse then the world is going to end in 2012 conspiracies. How many times they keep scaring us

Not exactly, the post is wrong as you don't need to use this method to get the upgrade.

The installer will accept any old Windows 7/8/8.1 key upon installation and will activate just fine. So if you've got an old key on another PC you can install a fresh copy on your new machine.

I believe that's what was being discussed above.

Also, I'd always prefer a fresh install of Windows over an upgrade, always seems to leave a load of crap behind. First thing I do if I buy something pre-build like a laptop is wipe it and start again from scratch.

If it helps one person its a deal. Win 10 is the best O/S , it has a lot of tools integrated , the only thing missing is the Aero that Win 7 had only the taskbar can be blurred pity.

Microsoft are losing a ton of money patching up their old systems.
An ignorant user will have a hard time not constantly getting updates, not having an up to date built in anti virus software, not turning off his anti virus software, not having a modern browser that's constantly getting security patches and not having an email program or service that warns you of phising or malware attachments.
And as an added bonus, you get used to a modern OS so much, using clanky Windows 7/xp at work bothers you enough to bug your manager for an upgrade, which DOES cost money (and lots of it), which Microsoft can then pocket from its real users, companies.
It's a win-win for everyone involved.
So I have windows 7 on my laptop, how can I get windows 10 on it?

Paid £4.50 for the Pro version in Dec2016. Could be £4.50 'down the drain' then?
Do you get the free pant otters with this deal?
