Be nice if they could distribute it themselves to homeless shelters etc instead of shoppers who'll probably get them because they're free and not eat them.

They have dealers outside Asda now? I only buy my narcotic’s from a reputable source
my wife went asda and bought tons of carrots for 6p a bag for her friends horses so no waste there

And have staff doing it when the shops closedinstead of going home to their families at Christmas time?

Probably some dodgy shopkeeper will pick the lot up & sell it.

Not knocking Asda for this but agree - some people will just be greedy and pick bags up to later chuck out. Would like to see it Goto a free meal event for homeless or elderly etc.

Horse and cart obviously

Until the Government intervenes, nothing will change.

When I worked for Co-op (one of the very small stores) we would sometimes throw out three full bags a night of food. If you tried to take any you were threatened with the sack.

Makes you wonder what these megastore-sized Tesco and Asda stores are throwing out every evening.

Not everywhere will have homeless shelters near by and with the amount our local had left on Christmas Eve they would need delivery hGV to deliver them. Asda got greedy this year charged to much when others were selling cheaper and expected customers to buy at any price. Sadly unlike Aldi which gave food away they will end up binning most of it

what an utterly ridiculous reply. I swear some people will twist anything just to make an argument. I never thought i'd see someone make such a stupid reply to someone saying it'd be nice if Asda distributed some free veg to homeless shelters, forget the fact it's now the 26th or that they have delivery drivers working or the fact it'd take maybe 20mins round trip to drop them off.

I'm my big strong arms. we got about 25 bags maybe not a ton but I don't expect someone to call me out on a phrase I think people knew I meant a lot. Merry Xmas everyone

No issue with that and quite sensible - as I said it’s the people who will take and then chuck it out just because it is free

Nothing thrown out in my area. The reduced fridges have organised gangs ready to harass the poor assistant to get prices down and fast.
To get near the stuff would require a Gatling gun and hose.

Perfect to freeze
This is a reason why food in the first place is overpriced to compensate for the waste. Farmer grows more for more profit supermarket buys more for lower cost and more profit and the normal person pays over the odds.

They just need a centralised system they can see how much of each product is sold every week in different stores and be more efficient with the stock that gets shipped to stores. But greed is created by humanity!
There are charities out there that collect and redistribute food so that can be arranged.

Worth mentioning I've just done 4 volunteer shifts with Crisis at Christmas homeless shelters in London and Asda have donated lots of bottled water so they are good guys in my eyes.

if they won't give it to the homeless shelters or food banks, you the customer take them and see if you can drop them off to the homeless shelters or food banks or better still, give what is edible straight from the pack to the homeless people yourselves.

+1

Rarely felt the need before on HUKD to invite someone to give themselves a thorough and vigorous prostate exam, but would happily make an exception in this case. Glad to see the little rat has deleted his comment

Let's nationalise the supermarkets, all of them, and that way we will be able to control exactly how much of each is made.
Infact we could allocate a certain amount of food to each person so everyone gets a fair amount. Save money by not bothering to make fancy stuff. Then everyone pay a bit more tax to get a national food service that provides all the nutrition and food to the population.
Then there will be maximum efficiency, minimum waste. Whilst we are at it, just take all the money everyone earns and nationalise everything, housing, water, electric, TV. Making everything as mass produced and therefore efficient as possible, and then use that money from tax and the money saved and spread it out so everyone gets the same, no more homelessness! No more rich monopolies, just equality everywhere, the perfect system.

Bingo, we are onto something here guys

You seem to assume that the homeless shelters would want it. Having worked in Tesco a couple of years ago doing the Community Food Connection scheme, the shelters only every want a couple of trays of food a night (they only have limited fridge/cupboard space normally) so pick out the best (always used to be fruit and bakery goods) and reject all the rest. Thank god for anaerobic-digestion plants for the rest so we no longer have to bin it into a hole in the ground as previous generations did.

Wasn't being judgemental. I'm not on a comfy sofa, I'm currently at work , like I was all day yesterday working for the emergency services instead of being at home with the wife and kids.
Great - perfect for my rabbits - will freeze 100 bags, and defrost 2 a week - thanks ASDA

Think we shop in the same area.
Sometimes I forget it's final reducing time and go in.
Being pushed and shoved, knocked about by trolley. The shelves are emptied in minutes.
