Not a deal, but a service they have been offering for years.

you need to be on 20mb to get this, im only on 10mb but heat added

If you are on a "M" or "L" tier Broadband Service, you do not require a modem upgrade at this time.

thank you

virgin will upgrade all of there stuff when newer models are available if you ask because its not yours its there stuff you only rent it (which is better than sky cause if it goes tits up virgin replace it for free not matter how long you have had it)

i have just got a new upgrage but th troble is th new one is meant to be faster.
but its not its slower and well peaed off about it

I'm on the L broadband and they sent me a free router via this deal.

It's not as good as the one I'm already using, so it'll do as a spare 'just in case.'

This deal is for replacing an old modem, not getting a free router.

how did you get a router out of them when i asked they said they don't do them but i know they do as my mate has one.

Wireless "G" Router

Our wireless "G" router is simple to set up and has a great wireless range, and with built-in wireless encryption it’s secure too. It's easy to share your connection with multiple users, stream music or even video conference.

£40 when you upgrade to Broadband L or XL
Free when you add Broadband L or XL if you don't already have broadband with us.

As they say that offers are for all customers, I can't see why the wouldn't give you a free router if you're on L or XL broadband?:?

Don't suppose anybody has any experience with getting the 'N' router for free?
I'm on the XL package, just wondering whether it's worth trying to get or not!

n router is only free on xxl

Is there any scope for bartering/haggling though, or is the pricing set in stone?

I got it but on XXL. It's a Netgear WNR2000 plus a USB Adapter. Working nicely too. Got it working at 2.4GHz for legacy stuff and it's working with a 5GHz Airport Extreme for other wireless N stuff.

From the Virgin Site, but definately worth a haggle if your contract is up or you've had any service problems you can harangue them with:

Wireless "N"
Wireless "N" Router

If you love wireless, our "N" router is about as good as it gets. On top of all the benefits of our "G" router, our sleek wireless 'N' router gives you:

* Improved coverage, with fewer 'black spots' in your network
* Even better range, so you can work further away from your router
* Super-fast file transfer between computers – ideal for sharing large files
* The latest wireless encryption technology for extra security
* The best 'wireless' broadband performance available

Free with Broadband XXL (includes a free USB adapter)
£25 with Broadband XL (up to 20Mb broadband)
£50 with Broadband L (up to 10Mb broadband)

i haggled for a free wireless G router im on broadband XL and when i first spoke to customer service they wanted £40 pound. i asked to be put through to retentions and they offered it me free as quick as that. i also rang back at a later date and spoke to someone generally who sent me a new modem out free i think it was 256 version forgot make but its small. but im not really fermiliar with the product and its lacking the usb connection like my old motorola modem which seems to be running ok so im a bit unsure.

i found they didnt really know much about my modems capability even in technical support which was disapointing as i tried questioning whether it was worth the upgrade on practical terms, and in the end i got fed up and just agreed to have it. im a bit annoyed after discovering i could of had the wireless n router as in post above for possibly free or £25 which i think is worth it anyway considering how long you keep them and the security advances. i even tried asking if they did anymore and they didnt have clue i wish ide spotted this earlier as i would have deffinately opted foro the wireless n router.

as for them owning the equiptment i said should i return old modem and the guy said we dont require it and to dispose in an environment friendly manor if needbe. so i guess anyone whos thinking of selling or getting rid of equipment should be ok if thats the case.

full marks to the person who spotted this offer.

I just filled in the form as i have XL and the Ambit 120, so just waiting on new modem to be sent to me

or will i be better to get the free Wireless "G" Router, as i have iphone and sometime cant get onto youtube, not a problem as i can go on pc but was thinking as it's free should i ?

budweiser - im on xl as post above your say and i had the free router and ambit 256 modem sent me too other day, but i dont know much about ambits and whether they are as good as the motorola surfboard i have with a usb slot. im wondering whether i should of waited as the fact they are giving them free easily may mean excess stock or a new model is coming out which i now may not be eligable for who knows.

hope this helps.

to be honest I am not really in the know about modems, I always have to ask my mate lol

You can get a free replacement modem, all you need to do is phone them and say your existing one you have had for years is faulty or has an electrical problem. They will send you a new 'face-lift' modem for free.

I had an electrical problem with mine (which i had for the past 3+ years), phoned them, they sent a new modern design/colour/size modem for free.

What modem are you supposed to have? ie only took mine out last year and have the Scientific Atlanta EPC2100 - which the link says is fine?

I requested one on Friday. We had an older Motorola model. New one arrived today Ambit 256.

Yeah they did for me too - but I was on the verge of leaving them over it. My modem was generally knackard, running slow and constantly loosing the connection and then needing a restart.

They didn't believe me and said it was fine - it took me over two months to get it sorted, when a manager arrange for an engineer to visit.

Got my new, small, black, Virgin branded Ambit modem last night.

Plugged it in as per the amazingly detailed (NOT!!) quick start guide and..............................................nothing happened.
Sync led flashed, send flashed but no receive??:?

Bottle of red wine half way through my system so I couldn't be bothered investigating. Plugged the Surfboard back in and will have another go tonight.

Anyone else had this problem (with or without red wine ;-))

The modem has to be registered so you need to call them. 0800 953 9500 and give them the mac address which is on modem itself. It will be working in about 5 mins.

Thanks, just had one of our PC literate guys at work tell me the same thing.

Will get things up and running tonight.

The link in this offer asks me to select which modem I currently have, and when I select the modem I do have it tells me I'm up to speed, so no new modem! Am I missing something here?

I would quite fancy one of the modems with a wireless router, as my current very old router doesn't give me the full speed of the XL package. Although 6 months ago a Virgin engineer told me the ones they were giving away were notoriously unreliable. Can anyone let me know how good the wireless router is?

was going to get 50mb/s but dont see the point at the mo.....what do you really need it for?

bitorrent overnight, normal internet use wont use a fraction of that, tv maybe but a proper tv is a better option anyway

i am on vmedia up to 20mb/s - have had a dlink n / gigabit router for about 18 months and its fast enough for all uses including xbox360 gaming.

got my Ambit 256 deivered this morning, not swapped over yet will try it out later.

will i see a change when i swap it over do you think?
