I rang up virgin media today and requsted there Free Virgin Media Super Hub they told me it was for new customers only after some banter mine is on its way. Im on the XL package but friends of mine on smaller packages have got them too. its worth a shot!!

We rang up to upgrade to XL tv and they give is it no questions ask.

The only phone call I'll be making to Virgin will be to say I'm leaving. Since they introduced 50mb BB in my area my service has been rubbish.

By the time your done speaking to them on the phone your better off keeping your old hub and keeping stress free and still having all that money you just used calling them up!

I have the xl connection back at home in london and fair play it lives up to its speed with average speeds of 18mb, download speeds of 2-3mb a second and uploads of 1.5mb a sec which is pretty dam fast

but here in portsmouth where i live now it's a hideous connection and im lucky enough to get 3mb speeds!


But seeing as i've called up complaining to them loads of times too, i suppose calling them up one more time wont hurt!

I'm fed up with Virgin too and their prices are ridiculously high and customer service is rubbish - Am leaving as soon as my contract is up.........

What does the Super hub do by the way??? (_;)

have heard a mixture of responses to these things. some are saying that if you are running p2p or chat you may get a lot of drops. Also bear in mind that this is Virgin's property so you may not be able to set the router side up as well as you would like

not quite. Virgin always had a separate cable modem and then they occasionally provided a wireless router or you could use your own.

now Virgin have decided to create a single device that does both wireless and modem. In theory sounds a good idea but (as in anything) there are a lot of vocal responses to how poor it is.

I am sure there are lots of people having no issues with it but you never hear from those people.

ive just got the 10mb broadband service from virgin (no tv or phone) can i still get the super hub for free?

I prefer my own router that I can do with what I wish (installing a sensible firmware for example Open or DD-WRT, transforms a £30 by providing features of a £300 cisco).

lol - something wrong with it then obviously! Unless you are ADSL and not cable.

this is not true i hav just phoned them and they have said that i am on the xl already and i have to upgrade to xxl which is £75 a mth to get super hub

You got to have cable to get the hub. Saddly I don't have cable.

I've got XXL Broadband and line rental and when i got through to customer services I asked to be put through to customer relations and mentioned that existing (when you upgrade to 20mb 50mb or 100mb) and new customers get the super hub free and she ordered one for me free of charge.

I also got £4 off my Broadband because i was paying £29 while new customers are paying £25 (after 6 months at £12.50).

When I tried to get the discount with customer services they were very unhelpful so if you get nothing out of cs ask to be put through to customer relations.

Well I got one of these and I can say the wireless speeds are crap. My old router has far better speed. Now I got two routers attached one for wifi only. Thankyou mr branson

Sounds good, that's exactly what i would do. I think it's 'customer retentions' though not 'customer relations', i.e. trying to retain the customer (you).

Finally got mine after some words with customer service and because they gave me attitude I complained to a manager and got £26 off my next bill.

if you have a 10mb connection, you can't get more than a 1mb/s download speed.

I too have bad experience with Virgin. Connection keeps breaking.

It doesn't cost anything to call virgin just dial 150 or 151 for faults from your landline and it's free
