Why have I been charged for calling voicemail?

Answer

If you have stored your actual mobile number for voicemail you will be charged. You need a special voicemail number stored that can be set up by calling 222 from your phone. Simply follow the prompts and this will ensure you're not charged any more.

free call to tmobile

thnks

Where did you get these details from? Can't see anything about voicemail being free on T-Mobiles website or on google...

so have Tmobile stopped charging 12p per minute for voicemail????????????? I managed to get the £7.50 tarrif 600 mins, 500 texts, unlimited landlines and Tmobile, and 3gb data which tethers from my iphone 4..... and works a dream with my laptop! the only thing that spoilt it was the voicemail.... god I'm a tight ar$e

are you sure? it is possible as a business customer to negotiate free voicemail but by default, as I understand it, voicemail costs per call.

my voicemail message tells people to send me a text if possible instead of leaving a message, as I'm a cheapskate :-)

Thanks for this. If it works, I'll be very happy as I begrudge having to pay for voicemail on top of my £25/month contract.... nextofkin, how on earth did you get that fantastic package?!

thx appreciated

I usualy just borrow someone else's phone to retrieve my voicemail as it will be included in their call allowance...ring, reject, PIN and robert is your uncle.

Would be nice to be able to access it free directly though.

it was on here a few months ago i got 2 contracts @ £15 for both

it was on here a few months ago, its the best thing i have found on HotUK Deals (NOV/DEC time)

So once you dial 222, and receive a text with your voicemail number, do you have to save this off to access voicemail without being charged? If so, how would this work on an iPhone, which has an pre-assigned voicemail key?!

Or is just the initial setup that is required, and not the save ?

I was told by tmobile CS that even if you ring your voicemail from another phone (eg landline) you still get charged on your phone for retrieving it. They got wise to the ringing your own number trick as well.

Has someone just found this and not actually tried it? Are they waiting for others to try it - is that why they posted?

Someone (not me as I am ill) should call 150 and confirm with CS

i got in touch with t-mobile and they are not aware of any changes, i looked at my price plan on their website - still a charge to call voicemail though

update: t-mobile says this is for the older price plans for when voicemail is free, doesn't apply to the new price plans which i'm on sadly!

I've tried this but it takes a while for anything to show on the online bill. I've got a feeling that t-mobile use "call" and "retreive" with different meanings (i.e. to get through to the voicemail system is free but to listen to your messages is not...).

Just tried it and the number directs me to ring 150 and set up voicemail.

You're all thinking too hard about it. (Ex TMUK employee here)

Voicemail retrieval is chargeable on particular price plans, free on others. Check the documentation for your price plan (or look at the PDFs for your plan that are on the website).

This isn't charged anything like anything like Russ2626 is suggesting, voicemail retrieval is charged as a phone call to the voicemail system, per minute.

You are able to access your voicemail by calling the "wrong" number (i.e. your own mobile number from your mobile phone), but as this is the "wrong" number, the billing system doesn't know it's special and charges you as a normal phone call. Dialling 222 SHOULD automatically set up your phone with the correct voicemail access number. Sometimes it doesn't, depending on your phone so you may need to set it manually.

Hope this helps clear up any confusion.

As before - you get charged for ringing your own number now

I don't think this applies to modern contracts. I turned off voice mail a while ago, it jsut drove me crazy. Anyone that knows me texts me if they can't call, and anyone else that doesn't care whether they talk to me or not I don't want to hear from.

Though free voicemail would be a good deal if was confirmed on new contracts.

Cold. Got charged for accessing my voicemails

The information here is incorrect. I was still charged 31p (charges only appear after a day or so on the bill). Expired. Will be looking into Hullomail now...

Do you know of any 30 day plans that include voicemail?

I'm with nextofkin, I've got 600 mins, 500 texts and unlimited data all for £7.50
Has anyone on here with this sim only deal got hullomail to work?
I get an error message when dial the activate number in contacts. I read somewhere that t-mob dont let sim only divert numbers.

If anyone on a sim only has hullomail working please help me out, how did you activate using the number in contacts?

Hi Gusco,

I'm on a similar contract to you but pay a bit more (T-mobile, £10 / month, 12 months : 500 mins, 600 txts, unlimited data, and unlimited landline).

I've got Hullomail working fine on my phone and I'm not being charged for it. I haven't needed to dial any activate number. I've got a HTC wildfire and just installed the app, then ran the app to create a new account and a message appeared saying that forwarding settings had been applied (or similar). A short while later I tested it and the call was forwarded to Hullomail when unanswered. The app seems to have added a forwarding number to: "forward when busy", "forward when unanswered", and "forward when unreachable".

Maybe try creating a new account through the app with your phone or adding the forwarding number manually (if you know it)?

To get free voicemail on T-Mobile all you need to do is dial your own number which connects you to your voicemail and it then comes out of your free mins. Its how iv always done and never been charged, hope this helps?
