Haha, very apt, just had a text and email from United Utilities yesterday about needing our support to save water due to increased demand during this warm weather and how they're struggling to get enough water around the system at peak times.

I've already got water efficient toilets (already installed by previous owner), don't use the garden hose, don't leave tap running when brushing my teeth, share a bath with the wife , just common sense stuff really
When they reduce my bill then i listen to them cartel s

Yeah, I got the SMS too and no less than 4 e-mails regarding 'Water Supply Advice' yesterday. Too be fair we've had very little rain up here in the Lake District for the last 3 months and some of the rivers are looking very dry.
I've no sympathy for United Utilities. They cover the wettest parts of England including the Lake District but can't seem to mobilise enough reserves for the odd dry spell. They were only fined £300,000 for infecting the water supplies with Cryptosporidium a couple of years ago due to a badly maintained holding tank. Not a lot considering their CEO earned over £2 million in 2017. We had to boil our water for 6 weeks and got about £50 compensation!
Hang on. Weren't there floods a month ago? #wheresthewatergone

Management speak:-

1. It is the wrong sort of water.

2. The water did not go into their water storage sources in its free flow will.
So you get your water by the metre ?? I get mine by volume, such as a pint or gallon.

No one sells water in pint or gallons (it is an offence to do so). this is kindergarten knowledge and mumsnet chat.

Everyone sells/buys water by the (cubic) metre (or ml, l, cl).

It is probably due to lack of knowledge in basic facts.

A pint or gallon is a perfectly acceptable unit of measurement for a liquid. That is a fact look it up.

I looked up, it is not a fact.

Show me "this fact" then. I will accept a UK utllity bill from 1999 that measures in pints and gallons. This does not need to be United Utilities, any UK water company will do.

(Addendum)

If you want to stealthily change your noun from "water" to "a liquid". Your change is also not a fact. It is a faked/false fact.

There are three specific specific liquids (milk, cider and milk, latter must be in returnable containers ) that could be sold in pints. No one is allowed to transact a liquid in gallon as a unit of measurement. The sanction is a summary offence.
