Free WiFi boost for virgin media broadband customers. Download free app.

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

Virgin Media has announced its “Intelligent WiFi”, which the company promises will revolutionise its customers’ home Wi-Fi connections. Virgin seems particularly confident in the tech, stating that it could improve the speeds of Wi-Fi in certain parts of the home by up to three times.

That’s certainly a bold statement, but perhaps what’s most interesting is that Virgin Media is achieving “Intelligent WiFi” without new hardware.

Instead, the update will rollout free of charge to Virgin Media customers with a Hub 3 router.
The key to Virgin Media’s “Intelligent WiFi” is the new Connect app. This is a free download that users can install on their mobile devices, and allows them to test the strength of their Wi-Fi in every room of their home.

It also monitors any areas where Wi-Fi signal struggles to reach, allows customers to manage devices connected to the network, and to pause the internet connection for devices.

Customers will also be able to order a Wi-Fi booster through the app that will help extend the range, which will be free for Full House and VIP Virgin customers. Customers signed up to other bundles will pay £3 per month.

Cleverly tweaking the router to maximise its customers’ Wi-Fi networks is a sensible way of going about things, and it’s great to see Virgin is evolving its broadband offering for no extra costs to its customers. Intelligent WiFi will be rolling out to customers from today, March 12.

Or just buy a proper router that will do a better job no matter what Virgin roll out.
F*** Vermin, don't go anywhere near their nasty sluggish routers.
Use their router in modem mode and get yourself a proper Hi-range Wifi Router without all this faff on with downloading apps and sending all the information back to Vermin to target you with other stuff.

Oh and don't think it's free, because you can guarantee these cowboys will give you it free with one hand, then take it back with interest come the next price rise...
They want you to rent a wifi booster? Seriously?
About time they did something, considering their router consistently comes last of the major ISP supplied routers in performance tests, particularly at range.

Without new hardware what can it realistically be doing though, besides channel changing though?

There is new hardware, WiFi booster. Free for full house & VIP packages. £3 a month for others.
Router problems that they then charge £3 a month for!

Signal booster for free and nothing less!

My mobile phone switches to its own data plan from wi-fi when it is in a room 10 feet away from the router through a standard wall. Worst router performance of any router I have ever owned this Hub 3.
Shouldnt they provide this to us anyway
Already got the app and does not make any difference to the wifi signal .

Yep ludicrous. I tried to get one last time they did a promotion giving them away and despite being on a top package (Full House) they were having none of it and wanted something like £7 delivery then £3 per month, for which you could just buy one outright if you shop around.

Heat for the deal, though it feels like a stop gap solution really. Everyone knows the Superhub 3 has major problems and is ripe for replacement yet VM just don't want to pull the trigger and release SH4 for some reason (probably money).

Going to try and get one this time though since it explicitly states full house customers get it free. If they try and mess me about like last time I'll tell them to cancel the lot as it's frustrating when it feels like a fight just to get something you are entitled to (according to VMs own marketing)...
* NB It doesn't work with the WIFI on Virgin Trains
More BS from VM ! Superhub 4 Please !!!
This is a new app? I'm sure I tried this months ago, walked from room to room to measure signal... made absolutely no difference to their terrible hub. My old £20 TP Link modem router was far superior.

...HUB3 is real shajt
Whole thing sounds bogus to me...
The Wi-Fi is set to auto channel and would find one with the lowest interference anyway.
Renting a booster is just a joke

At most that App will just tell you what you know/// when your signal is at a low range e.g. furthest from the router then pop up with how to waste £36 a year on a booster than you get get for £10.
Let me get this straight, they are releasing an app which will tell you how good the wifi signal is, and allow you to change settings on your router that you could already change anyway? There are apps for this already, which also recommend the best channel to be on. For £3 a month the wifi booster is also pointless. Still the best solution is to invest in a decent router and stick the Virgin Media "super" hub in modem mode.
Are VirginMedia also advising the Govt on Brexit?

They clearly know there are issues with their 'Super'hub. The solution is a joke!

I'm not paying £3/month for a booster that should be free for all of us!
A bit of marketing BS i think.....
I did a little YouTube unboxing when I got my Super Hub 3 and got loads of views... It seems most of the people who got one love it and quite a few don't! Touch wood I've had no issues, I've had the odd times when the whole streets internet has gone off due to Virgin but as of yet no problems with the SH3.

I'm actually hoping when they bring the SH4 out they'll let me test it

Will give it a go but sceptical. Virgin do tech like I do ballet dancing. Verrry badly.
What a load of tosh, it is not "intelligent WiFi" it is actually "WiFi booster box"...
...unless you count the Intelligence as being putting the booster in the right room...
What’s the actual app called ? Is is virginmedia connect

You should try a NowTV box... My android phone gets a signal of 0.1mbs... when the phone is 3' from the router.... I can get 30mbs from the neighbours 3 doors down... At any in-laws it gets full speed from their BT or other routers..

Wierd thing is the windows tablet get 36mbs anywhere in the house...

Had 2 routers from them and both are the same, my old Tiscali/Orange box router is better... Yeah, Tiscali.... Going to try and figure the settings out since Now will not tell you them...

Ditto.... anyone?
This isn't a hidden way to get people joining up to their WiFi sharing is it? Where they let any Virgin customers share your WiFi when they are out and about, maybe this is to try and piggy back off of your neighbours virgin WiFi if theirs is a stronger signal than yours???? or am I being overly sceptical???

which.co.uk/new…ot/
OK there is no way an app can improve signal, it iswalls, floors, pipework, and electric cables etc that affect signal strength.
Much more vital is ensuring you don't have other nearby routers etc using the same band usually 1 6 or 11, but easily checked using a simple WiFi analyser.
Also move the router out of a corner, you get a better chance of decent signal with router in the middle of the house, the signal propogates in a sphere so having it next to a wall just means you lose that part of the signal, so although some people claim that if you put aluminium foil on the wall you bounce back the signal back ( personally I don't believe it)

I like this one. It will chop the Virgin box into chunks in seconds
VonHaus Compact Deluxe Palm Router Saw - Plunge Trimmer 710W - Tool Bag + Accessories amazon.co.uk/dp/B071FK65GX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_zR6HCbB62QH7F

Then buy the best TPLink one your budget allows.

At the minute my Wi-Fi is useless in the room above my router.
My wife's old LG tablet can pick up the Wi-Fi and yet my brand new Huawei m5 tablet sometimes doesn't.
I get over 360mbs on my wired connection but the Wi-Fi anywhere between 0.1 and 250mbs.
Is the booster worth a pop?
Good news that they are at least trying. I switched to an Asus RT-AC86U and put the Virgin Hub3 in modem mode a few months ago however and won't be going back to using the Hub3 for WiFi anytime soon.
Just buy a decent mesh system personally google wifi then if and when the sh4 comes out with its own mesh system like bt then you can flog the google hubs I guarantee you won’t lose a penny imo

I'm now using an Nvidia Shield to stream TV since I don't get a decent Freeview signal anymore thanks to all the tall buildings gone up in my area over the past year or two. I had to use a cable to connect Shield to Virgin modem... despite being 3 feet away, the wifi would regularly drop out!

I've got one of those cheap USB wifi boosters on the way from China, going to give that a try to cover the blackspots in bedroom.

Mine has stopped working with my home virgin when I go to my bedroom, grhh

the app has been around for a while now, the extra charge for boosters is new.

If you want to set up guest networks or anything else I would do it in the admin page rather than the app, its hopeless needed to do a full reset of the router after simply creating a new guest connection.

I can see the TV mast I get my signal from with the naked eye, it's probably less than 7 mile away.... Signal is hopeless.... If I lived on the other side of the street I'd point my aerial the other way for a better signal from 30 miles away...

How's that for stupid!!??!??!! 😋
Anyone got any suggestions for what settings to change to make things more bearable?
