is it me, i been in 2 different Asda's and it seems a bit slow. Anyone experience the same?
Thanks
Do you just try to bring up a webpage on your phone while in store and then you get to register? Or is it something you have to do from home first?

bring up any webpage and then it'll say you'll need to register or log in to 'get online'.

You r right, I found out by coincident that they have wifi in Asda few days ago but connecting to their wifi always a failure in my outlet.
So Asda know when you are in their stores and probably track your movements? No thanks.

Although their tinfoil can be fashioned into an excellent brain protector.
Could be handy as 3G coverage is very poor on my network in Asda but I suspect there will be connection issues and slow speeds so probably not worth the effort.
seems a bit of a hassle registering just for free wifi
It's free wifi mainly for use so you can your phone to check shopping lists and such, it's not going to be great or fast. Can't complain but useful to know.
as long as i can check other stores prices as i shop and check out hotukdeals, then i am happy lol
Almost everyone who has smartphone has internet allowance, so I don't understand why this should be a deal?

I dont have an internet allowance. I'm a cheapskate. Phone costs me less than £4 a month.

In my local Asda there is no signal. The cynical could say it was deliberate, this would be a good way of keeping track of you - something the americans can't get enough of.

Hope the coverage isn't as bad as my local Tesco

I was. I couldn't even load up google play properly. and yes I signed up for it
Its ok to check something if you on a plan etc. But the speeds are awful. I get around 4mb on my phone (3G) and get around 0.1/0.2 on asda wifi takes ages to work.

Also youtube, iplayer and many other sites are banned.
Went to asda today, took 10 bloody years to connect on full wifi reception. Tesco joined straight away. No messing around.
No thanks I am a cynic and this is to me another way to get your contact details and send offer after offer and track your shopping style and behaviour in order to "tailor" offers and deals to you.

Give your mobile number and see how long it is before you get spam texts etc. as well.
I agree I'll get text and emails out of this. But the Internet was fast, checked all asda deals on HUKD and it was great.
Better than not having it imo.
Oh great. The aisles will be blocked by FB addicts staring into their phones while the rest of us just want to do some shopping.

I'm a bigger cheapskate. My phone costs me less than £1 a month but I do have a data allowance Gawd bless cash back deals.

The logging in process seems a bit busted. I gave it the number of my mifi just in case I started to get a flood of ASDA spam texts but I never got any code. I still managed to log on regardless on my tablet. Speed seemed fine enough in my local branch.
my local asda has had this for years
A supermarket isn't one of the places I think "oh I wish they had free wifi here" but I guess this will be useful for some.

Supermarkets have cafes. Have a coffee while you are posting your 1p off Asda petrol deal in the hope of 1000+ºC heat.

I'm sorry for posting my opinion on something. If you had bothered to read the whole post I included "I guess this will be useful for some." That could be for folk who frequent supermarket cafes. I don't and it's unlikely I'll ever post a deal about petrol so not sure what you're on about there.
Thanks, this is useful to me - I often struggle with slow 3G and it's handy for checking prices elsewhere while instore.

Do you just have to register for this once, and then connect automatically every time afterwards, or do you have the faff of registering with a code every individual time? Or is it per store? Thanks!

I thought the dongle was designed to catch mobile network signal? You wouldn't need the dongle, just the laptop which would pick up the wifi, same as at home.

Although their tinfoil can be fashioned into an excellent brain protector. = paranoid or what , so they need you connected to the wifi to know this ? why ? they have other means of knowing exactlly where you have been by looking at your reciept which they keep a copy of . silly begger

They can look at the receipt if they want, it doesn't give them any of my details as it's paid using cash and without any loyalty type card.
21st century now everyone got 3g/hsdpa on their phone quicker connect to it then asda network ! U can download movie using torrent or just watch youtube/online strim while shopping in asda

No thanks, don't really want to trust Asda with my details. Anyway most people have data on their phones I doubt anyones going to bother setting this up whilst they buy their milk and bread...
They'll no doubt be watching for peeks in access to HotUKDeals in case of misprices lol
Tesco Redditch has the same thing, which is incredibly handy as you can't get a phone signal.
And yet they still can't give us a phone signal Instore..
