your right to be cautious but I wouldn't post anything illegal!, as said the games where all given away free (like harms way and crash course are now on the xbox marketplace) just after a time they change them for new free stuff and take them offline, If it was illegal you need to mod your xbox to play the games. that's how people get banned

The only good one on there is Hexic HD.. I still play it all the time, i currently have around 7 hours invested in my current game!

I cant seem to get it to work off the usb pen?Is there some magic im not doing?

You need to burn the ISO file to a CD or DVD

No. You can't get banned for playing these games. They are all offered free of charge so there's no licence to purchase.
Hexic HD is usually pre-loaded into new HDDs when you buy them. The rest are or were free to download.
You'll also need an Xbox Live Vision Camera to play Totem Ball. It doesn't work with Kinect, unless they patched it in.

You need to make sure that your USB is formatted by the Xbox to recognise the files. Try copying an arcade game onto it to get an idea of what folders to put the files in for it to read them. You can then just copy them onto your HDD. If you have a transfer cable, use Xport360 or Modio to put them directly onto the HDD.

nice advice cirno

I've been playing with using usb xbox explorer Download latest version 44 here

once you configured a usb stick on the xbox360 then run the above program you can put the files on a usb stick and they can run from there or you can copy them off the usb stick on to the xbox hard drive

there is a great guide here on how to do it

If anything should ease your suspicions then it should be this simple bit of info...

Try copying an Xbox game, and see if it works on your Xbox 360....

Result? It does not work as it's protected content.

Try copying an Xbox 360 Update to a disc and playing it in an Xbox 360

Result? It works!!

Point being, if an Xbox 360 can run content copied to blank media without the machine being modified then it is not violating any terms set out by Microsoft, which is why Home Brew stuff created by Xbox 360 Users runs from Blank Media.

Pretty much the same reason as to why this runs off Blank Media.

Hacked XBLA games can only be launched from "hacked" profiles, you would then need to switch back your your normal profile to keep your saves and achievements. I haven't looked into this lot yet but they seem genuine to me. Also, you don't get banned playing hacked XBLA games as they don't require your console to be modded, you get your profile messed up and gamerscore wiped out if caught by MS!

So which folders or files do I burn?

arcadecollection.iso

Or

Extracted

Content Folder
000000000000000 folder
584107D1 folder
000D0000 folder
584107D100000001 file

Thanks

So are you saying don't play these?

100% straight legit. Good find; thanks for posting.

Thanks to jamsk1 for the USBXTAFGUI tip. Works a charm.

Just as with retail games, it's always better to install any game to the xbox hardrive rather than running from disc or USB.

if you want to do the cd way then you need a program that can burn disk images (iso) so you just need to burn the arcadecollection.iso then put the disk in the xbox and go to your games library

oh and ps nothing here is hacked it just free stuff that was given away on xbox!

thanks worked a treat

Running from disc isn't worth it - even if they're free that's a chunk of your life that you won't get back waiting for them to load... took me back to Spectrum days.

Thanks OP

I'm not sure this is legit. The games might have been free but since microsoft removed them from the marketplace are they still free.

The content has no Digital Rights Management! (DRM) protection. Not free stuff has DRM protection and can't be coped from one xbox to another and is locked to a profile, this is free and has no drm.

So if I download a free game from xbox live, and then Microsoft removes it at a later date, I should no longer play the game and delete it?

Same thing.

Thanks to poster I have some of these when they were available for free but not all, and I never knew you could do this.

Still not sure it is techincally legal (although it's irrelevant as you'll never get caught).

The copyright owner gave the game away for free
The copyright holder then started charging for the game
Person A (who the copyright holder gave the game away to for free) gives a copy of the game to Person B (who the copyight holder has never given the game to)

Person A can continue playing the game for free, no problems. The problem is that when they give a copy to Person B they don't have the right to do that - the copyright holder does, and they are charging for the game.

I might be wrong, I might be right - no copyight law expert.

Logic is sound.
However the games have never been charged for,

OMG. Can everyone just stop going on about whether or not you're allowed to download these games & the possibility of getting banned.
Nothing is gonna happen if you download & play them. End of story.

-=-=-

Cheers OP.

I don't have Hexic HD on my HDD.
Was just thinking of looking around the net/sifting through my xbox download history for it a few days ago

So what makes this different from playing illegal games? Like above, I dont want my XBlive account banned.

Original Poster

Paranoia is the only difference! and the fact that they free!! Microsoft make a killing do you think they really give a stuff about some free software? People need to stop scaremongering!
Facts are this is free software with no Drm and it won't get you banned, its not console or profile locked. To play illegal stuff you have to either get your console modded or download someone else profile with games locked to that profile, that will get you banned!

you cannot re/download Hexic from your download history or marketplace ..last time I checked. You could use transfer kit and you end up with it again along with /demos or move it from the usb pen you create with the 5 downloads above. you cannot copy only move. the other 4 you can do either.

missing undertow :P

Original Poster

undertow was only given away free for a short period and still had drm attached so was console and profile locked

Awesome, thank you, I can not get to my xbox just yet but I've downloaded them I'll give them a blast as soon as possible!!!

Thanks man this is great, had a bit of bother putting games on the usb as following steps in guide never worked for me but created the folders myself and injected the files into them, now working perfect!

thanks
