As all the .com domains are getting used up, .xyz is becoming very popular.
Is it free just for one year or lifetime?
Seems 1 year

I've registered a domain and on the email it says "Price: 0.00 / Annually (Pay Every 12 Months)". Hopefully this isn't a error.
Done..What's the rate after 1 yr???
The terms says free forever for hosting, not sure about domain name, though http://www.hostinger.co.uk/tos

I presume that it means free forever for your first one but additional domains are charged like so, but it is rather unclear as to whether second year that you get charged:-
Domain Registration Renew Transfer
.xyz ........£8.95 £8.95 £8.95
.co.uk £8.85 £8.85 £8.85
.com £10.85 £10.85 £10.85

I have an account with these it came with ftp but after a year they canned that unless you up your account.

meh .. freebie is a freebie so i've grabbed one. also got the email that implies it's free forever so we'll see. probably won't use it either way ..
Thanks OP

Don't know if anyone has looked but they offer a free hosting package as well ..

2gb disk space
100gb bandwith
Free Subdomain
2 MySQL Databases
2 E-Mail accounts
Website Builder
Script Autoinstaller
Less stable servers
Low priority support
No data backups

If the free domain name is indeed permanent, that plus this hosting package could certainly give you a nice, basic website to mess around with if you're looking to try to get in to website design or something like that.

The MySQL databases give you some options as well - setting up something like Joomla or a basic forum or something like that.

I'm going to email them and ask, probably easier that way :).

I can't see that they would basically give you a free domain and webspace forever but you never know i suppose. I'll report back when they answer the support ticket.

that would be great, good job! Ive currently got a wix website but feel the need to try a proper website
I remember sometime last year another website was giving away free .xyz domains too, I registered and let it expire after a year.

Glad I didn't renew it so now I can have the domain again for another year for FREE, thanks OP!!
Doubt it will be free forever, first year only so you use it for a website or email and are locked in.

Free hosting usually has the small print that they will inject advertising into your site...usually aggressive pop ups but can also be the same link altering software that this site and moneysavingexpert use so they get referral commission instead of you.

i've had an email confirming the 'domain order has been created' but no sign of the domain itself actually being created or validated.

It takes up to 2 business days for the domain to activate, and also you have to make sure you enter the correct details in your profile and also the domain registration form.
After an hour of jumping through a million hoops it now says that it can't process my order at this time.

No more of my time am I wasting on this nonsense.
i'm starting to wonder if this wasn't just an email harvesting exercise .. haven't heard a peep from them in any way, shape or form

I asked them why it was taking long and they said it is because they manually check through each one so people aren't spamming

fair enough. I'm not hugely fussed either way as i doubt i'll ever use it, but it does seem to be taking an inordinately long amount of time.
Thanks!
Mine's all set up and done after just 2 hours. Cheers OP.
2 hours ? do you know the owner of the site or something ? almost 3 whole days since i grabbed mine and it's still not done.

funnily enough, mine is now done - i got the email earlier and it does say in the email that the domain is registered for one year. no response to my support ticket about whether or not it'll renew for free yet though. i suspect it won't, but we'll see. I might still use it to fart around with HTML and stuff like that though
