I bought this from Ebuyer for £110 delivered, dead quiet. I need another now and just found I could have gotten [email protected] from PC World for £95. Good in case you need to take it back for some reason or need it immediately.

This drive won some Computer Shopper awards and some other magazine I can't remember. Full details here: freecom.com/ecp…557

Not bad, voted hot, i'd get one but i NEED one with ethernet network, hopefully with so many home networks using routers the price will come down-fast!

can't you just share it on the network from whichever PC it would be attached to? that's what we do. i guess maybe you don't want to have to have that 'central' PC switched on for other computers to access the drive...

Buy two of these andf Linksys NSLU2. This will give you 800GB on network.

These drives are excellent. They look so nice, and are very quiet. I paid £120 from ebuyer when I bought mine a while back. I am sure I saw them in PC World for £80 in December. I need another one, but I will only buy when it drops to ~ £75

Re: gobofraggle

The reason why i need NAS is thanks to the xbox i bought from argos! Thanks again hotukdeals (sorry forgot user!), i've soft modded it to use as media centre, but want big hard drive. Softmod is brilliant, i've networked it at home and i can stream files from my computer upstairs! NAS will mean the computer with the data on will not have to be on for access! File sharing on xbox is easier to do than within windows.

Got mine running nicely, but don't make the mistake of putting all of your personal photos etc on it and not backing them up to another hard drive or DVD. Single point of failure will undoubtedly cause you trouble.

In response to the query about networking it - you can buy NAS drives around 320gig but you're looking at about £150 cheapest. Alternatively you could just use an old chipped xbox setup with linux and leave that on all the time. Or build a cheap PC, technically you just need an integrated motherboard with lan and video, 128 meg ram, passive cooled old AMD cpu and maybe even run the OS from a flash drive. Would be really small and completely quiet due to no fans.

After all that prob just best to buy the NAS.

Got a link for these NAS drives?

Any good? Attach to it 2 400GB drive and you'll have more than Terabyte on your network

Hey, this could be just what I'm looking for.

I work in a small office - just 2 of us with laptops. Want some sort of central server so that we can work on the same files but also need to be accessable for home working. Am I right in thinking these drives can be accessed from home via internet? If so, how complex is it? How secure is it?

You can access some of them from Internet via secure connection. As to details - I really do not know as I never tried to do so

The ATMT looks like a bargain for network disk. The Buffalo is USB drive and for 17 quid more you can get the same device with 400GB.
