Freecom Mobile Classic 2.5" 400gb portable hard drive £44.97 PC World

Hi,

Just got back fro PC world where i picked up the above for £44.97, thought it was a good deal.

This was in the Canterbury Store, they said the price dropped yesterday from £99.97 down to the price above, there were 2 more on the shelves when i left.

Can only see their 500gb online, so will assume in store deal only.

Happy hunting.

Looks hot. Don't know if I'd go for a freecom drive but would prefer a seagate. Any other details? number of usb slots required, size of the outer shell its in?

You sure it was a 2.5 portable drive? (USB powered, no power supply). Seems cheap. Wouldnt know the item code (should be on receipt).

Hope this is the item number, if not tell me how to get it.

And YES, it's a 2.5 drive, says so on the box, i've been looking for one to switch over for my ps3 drive.

Dimensions and usb info to follow, just unpacking it.

Single USB powered, though it appears it will also take ext power at 5 volts.

Dimensions 139 x 83 x 22mm.

If someone tells me how to get a proper pic up here i'll put the receipt on with a pic of the drive if i can.

This is HOT for a 400GB 2.5"

If you need to, use imageshack.us/ then a link to the picture here or

A lot of external HDD prices changed yesterday, 97p = clearance so wont be available in every store.

Hope that works for the pic in terms of a link, if i've not got it right, someone send me an idiots guide, i can imbed images in other forums, always had problems doing on this one.

.. looks great

Got one of these a few months back at the full asking price. If your planning on getting one to use the drive as an upgrade for a laptop/netbook be aware that it is the thicker model and not one of the slim drives. probably fine for laptops but could be an issue for netbooks

H+R added!!!

Is it an IDE or SATA connection on the drive inside?

excellent price

And again from another Canterbury-ite!

Hmm.. I wonder if either of those 2 hard drives will be there tomorrow

Think I'll just assume that I'm too late this time, which is good news for my bank account.

Mate, you go for it, I work in an IT department. I'm sorted! :w00t:.

But for the record, concerning the rock paper scissors, I would have simply sneezed - I have swine flu, and that surely would own all other hands you can play! :whistling:

Yeah just noticed midimans post about the size being thicker than a normal 2.5" oh well still hot anyway.

I have the 500gb version of this and the drive is 12.5mm thick instead of 9.5mm so wont fit in most laptops. It will be a SATA drive as the max capacity of 2.5" drives was 320gb.

Bought this off ebuyer last year (for nearly twice the price) to use while backpacking with an Eee netbook. Totally worth the money in my opinion. Ive dropped it a few times and its took a beating inside my rucksack and still works fine (ran several HDD diagnostics to be sure). Never had a Freecom before, only Seagate and WD, but in terms of transfer speeds I think this has held its grounds and been quite acceptable in comparison.

Only cons are:
1)The rubber feet over the screws on the base have all fell off (although, over a period of months)
2)The '400gb' on the front of the unit is just an engraving with a blue LED backlight - not an actual digital counter of remaining free space, which would have been just lovely.

Hardly worth complaining about is it?:)

Anybody know if it will fit in my macmini ?
thanks
DL

only 500gb on website is this in store only?

Bought one of these for £68 a while back. Works really well. Great value at this price, god spot H & R added

Just bought the 2 they had at Warrington - so the list appears to be reliable.

Oh - and it works fine powered when from the usb ports on an Acer Aspire One netbook.
Not sure what you'd ever need to use the seperate 5v input for.

None in stock anywhere else in Kent

non-powered usb port... some crappy computer's front usb ports aren't powered so can only run the basic usb memory sticks and such or some hubs will need it (if theyre not using power)

Got the last one in Manchester (Chester Road) before closing time today. Shelf price £99.97, scanned at £44.97:thumbsup:

Not the same one, thats a WD, not a freecom.

Going to try and shoehorn the drive inside it into my PS3 later, hopefully it'll fit!

Managed to pick up three of these in Carmarthen today and they still had a couple left if anyone is still looking.

Although 400 gig is an odd size the drives themselves are fine, a bit bigger dimensionally than some, but the one tucked behind my PS3 can't be seen and it adds more than enough space to the 80 gig on board.

Just had a look round my local PCW, but all sold out. Noticed, however, that the price had been reduced to arond the £30 mark - good luck
