OK - I know it's FreedomPOP and we all love to hate them, but I got this on an invite email and it seemed to backsource to a generic URL and it's a refurb S4 for good money and a month of mobile phone service for £72 so I wanted to share.

I've only just bought myself a refurb iPhone 5s from Music Magpie (3rd time lucky from them!) otherwise I'd be jumping at this.

It says £59.99 but it's plus VAT (naughty marketeers!). No contract, no commitments, cancel anytime.

We brought you the first ever 100% FREE Phone Service, and today, we're excited to invite you to get 75% OFF a Samsung Galaxy S4. The Samsung Galaxy S4 boasts a superfast quad-core processor and a 13 megapixel camera. This is a pre-launch test and quantities at this price are extremely limited and won't last long!

Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 Black (Retails for £269.99) £59.99
Premium 1GB Trial (£8.99/month)

I wonder what condition the phones are in? Has anyone purchased one yet?

currently on this plan:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/freedompop-sim-only-1-25gb-data-1250-minutes-1250-texts-4-99-1-month-2447458?p=28173363

On occasion it takes a while (6-8 rings) to connect a call. I also think that because i am not paying for voicemail at the if i don't answer it says this number is not recognized but sometimes having issues with receiving texts and took a week to transfer my number apart from that where hunkey dory haha.

Seems a very good deal. Who do they piggyback off? O2 EE etc?

Three but via a custom android app that overrides the built in functions of android for call and message handling.

Three.

Freedom pop are shocking. They piggyback the data side of three only and route all calls and text over the data side and not voice. Lots of my texts have not arrived and calls do not connect. I've lasted a week before leaving, which took three days and numerous calls and messages to get my PAC code. This only arrived after threatening OFCOM. My advice - Stay away!

I might add that I've highlighted this deal for the price for the phone, not the service provider! I've had experience of them myself and went back to my GiffGaff sim after a week.

no problems with freedom pop here. I use the app csipsimple or the native android sip client. I can sign I to my sip account on my Linux machine to accept my calls on there. I am also currently in Aruba and can make calls to mobiles back in the UK 100% free from my 200 minute allowance. the data connection is always superb. with the csipsimple app you can add multiple accounts, so I currently run 4 of the 100% free freedom pop Sims. I have not paid for my mobile phone bill since September last year. feels good man.

I take it these are locked?

Are these phones unlocked?

I got this email too, can't decide if I should go for it. Pre-owned S4s are about 130 quid everywhere else (sometimes as low as £105) so it does seem like a barg. But then, what's the condition like, and would I be better off just putting the £72 towards a newer phone?

Even if they are, I think they're easy and free to unlock

good deal. Great phone. just wondering how the condition of the phone is.

Good luck getting a S4 to work with FreedomPop. I have had three SIMs none of which worked in my S4 but work fine in my old S2

The Galaxy S4 is a certified pre-owned.

The Galaxy S4 that is being offered in this promotion is meant for usage with FreedomPop. The device will be activated to our network once it has been shipped. However, you would be able to take the S4 elsewhere if you wish to cancel FP service.

Our devices use Three's network.

The reason I returned to my GiffGaff sim is that I use a dual sim phone (Cubot X11) and the FreedomPop sim was destined for that. However the app interfered with the dual sim capability, especially the usim codes on the second sim. I have a 'spare' phone with a FreedomPop sim in it but I'm disappointed to not be able to use it in my main.

That doesn't really help with the question.

Using my phone now it is brand new so far as I can tell, very very pleased with it and yes it is unlocked. Rinsed the 1gb data in a day and can only say it was faster and more reliable than my ee service that was being used in the osprey 2 4g router
