This is to add Freeview functionality to an existing TV. Many people still use TVs that don't have it built it and quite possibly can't or don't want to upgrade to a modern TV.

Thought these were like CRT TVs, you struggle to give them away now.

I couldn't give my old Freeview box away so it went in the bin.

Yep. Sony, for example, still make a range of analogue only, black and white TV's with tuning dials and a remote commander on a piece of wire.

I bet the EPG on this is slow as hell. BnQ also sell ross freeview boxes for ridiculous prices.

For that price and a spare old TV I have lying around why not!? Now just to find one.

Some people really are living in their own world. Not everybodys tv is less than 5 years old and if it was it would say a lot about the quality of them.

Full HD TVs can upscale the quality of picture anyway - bring on the heat

I bet the EPG on this is slow as hell.

well boo bloody hoo, an extra few seconds out of your oh so hectic life. What are you going to do with all of that extra time which a faster system gives you? take a 3 month cruise perhaps?

Exactly, lots of grown up's don't buy the latest TV's just because their mates have got one

While lots of people haven't upgraded to a TV with built in freeview, surely they would have bought a free view box by now seeing as analogue TV was switched off some time ago now?

Well i might even go up the recycling ,fetch mine out the skip

There must be a lot of poor people around , cos i bought one these things not long before digital cane here as a stopgap before getting a proper tv ( im not going to get another one for twenty years)

It was around a tenner back then !

Yes they would since the digital switchover in the UK was completed last year. Which is why these cheap freeview boxes are being sold at a basement price, no one needs them.

Still, heat for a cheap back-up I suppose!

Still got 5x CRT TV's hanging around in our house collecting dust. Just in time to revive them.

I look at it as restructuring , we were never as rich as lying labour would have us believe

Panasonic Viera TV's have absolutely terrible built-in freeview/freesat TV guides. I'm sure they aren't the only manufacturer to hobble their tv's so badly.
In such instances - where the picture quality is exceptional, but the TV guides are useless - a separate freeview/freesat box is preferable.
I'm not saying I'd stick a SD freeview box on our 1080P plasma....but there is definitely a need for such boxes on cheaper TV's.

It was seen in the Preston Store (Deepdale Rd). There were about 5 on the shelf at the time at around 6pm when I took the picture.

The EPG on my budget TV is slow as hell and useless as you have to click on the channel to bring it up. Even a cheapie box like this is likely to be an improvement as even changing channel takes 2-3 seconds.

I also have an older Panny Viera in another room and the the EPG on that is worlds better. Not sure why that is getting hate when others are so much worse.

Don't know where you get your info from my Panny is brilliant and it's a European model.

I'm not sure what model our Viera is - it has Freesat HD and Freeview...and is a 42" plasma.
The guides are terrible -- the freeview TV guide is plain ugly, and not at all intuitive. The Freesat one is slightly better - but it doesn't allow us to browse the detailed TV guide without completely cutting the channel we were watching. My brother's Samsung LED overlays the TV guide whilst the current channel plays in the background. Even our Hitachi plays the current channel in a small window whilst we browse the rest of the TV guide.
It's also not possible to schedule upcoming programs (v.easy to do on the Samsung and on my g/f's LG). It's just v.clunky, ugly and unintuitive

They can upscale but the quality remains exactly the same (or maybe worse), they're just using more pixels to show the same image.

Great bargain, thanks for sharing man.

Some right snobs in here!

I'm going to buy one because the small HD ready TV in my bedroom doesnt have freeview and i'm not willing to pay an additional £50 to a company i've been a customer of for 10 years to have an extra set-top box installed

thats a good price i have an old tv upstairs in my spare bedroom, not quite as old as that one on the pic but i'm all for recycling. Why do people have to put nasty comments some people can't afford to go out and buy new stuff all the time.

Sorry ,from my perspective its certainly not "all the time" .

When digital was actually forced upon me , to within a couple of weeks , i decided to take the plunge .Iv never bought a tv before ( used to watch on computer with tv card) and wont be buying another for probably ten years

£3.99 instore? Wow do people still go outside and use shops and money?

tk maxx lling these for £5.99
so this is a bargain

Some of us dont even have TVs but if I did Im sure Id be interested :-)
