Great thanks - just cancelled my Amazon order and ordered this instead
got my mother one of these for xmas, bloody brilliant, really easy to use and catchup tv is intergrated in to the TV guide.
That's a steal of a price - shame I can't justify another one. Chequered history, hence some of the iffy reviews, but the latest firmware works - and effectively converts it into the latest model, the FVP-5000T.
I'm happy with mine, though the user interface is a bit laggy (eg, changing channels, starting up Catch Up/apps) compared to the old Fox T2 I had. If it was a bit nippier I'd have no complaints.
The laggy interface made me buy a BT-branded humax box instead from the Cex deal posted here a few weeks back. Yes, it only records two shows instead of four, and only has 500GB of space, but BT made humax work out the bugs and kinks that made me despise this version.

You'd be surprised how much the latest firmware updates have achieved. It's a very different piece of kit now, and one of the very few that has three tuners. I was unimpressed when I first got it, but it's unbelievably good now, thanks to the updates.

Updates that work! Almost worthy of buying just for that.
Great, just ordered one.
I'd read the reviews first on the HUMAX site... I just did as I was interested. Sadly some of them are decidedly iffy, especially about their refurbished products. Put me off to be honest.

Can you add extra minutes at the start and end for recordings?

I have a BT UltraHD youview box which I bought cheap ages ago. There does not seem to be a way to add time to recordings. Sometimes the first few seconds of the start of a programme is missing.

You can if you really want to but there’s really no need to because 99% of the time it accurately picks up the start of programmes - even when it’s retimed for later on

You've got me wondering if I have the update - there's been no change in the responsiveness or speed since I first got it about a year ago

Edit: Just had a peek, my Software Build Date is 12 Jan 2018.

You've got the most recent update.

Almost sent mine back when i bought one four months ago. Seemed so laggy and clunky compared to the previous Sky HD+ box plus the tv guide would occasionally freeze requiring a reboot. Lag is still there but otherwise the other bugs have disappeared and now it does all i want and then some. Very easy to network. Bought a cheap 2nd hand Humax H3 Espresso media player off ebay. IMO defo don't pay full price as the H3 doesn't have much functionality. But i now stream recordings from the main Humax box to the H3 located in another room. I have also transferred tv recordings from the Humax to my PC for offline viewing (Youtube it if interested). Overall i'm happy with the box and recommend it if you can live with the lag.
Humax Direct raised their refurb price for these and other units (as is their right) unannounced this week. In addition, BASKET10 discount, no longer works.

Under DSR I returned this unit to Humax. Compared with Freesat📡, Freeview has limited access to such as Curzon Home Cinema, Amazon Prime etc., channel availability (200 vs 70 approx.) and apps in general. Freeview does have more HD channels.
