We all like haggis!

Yeah I love haggis, tripe, kidneys, liver and all internal organs ..............Yuck !!

ODE TO A HAGGIS

Fair fa’ your honest, sonsie face, Great Chieftan o’ the Puddin-race! Aboon them a’ ye tak your place, Painch, tripe, or thairm: Weel are ye wordy of a grace As lang’s my arm

The groaning trencher there ye fill, Your hurdies like a distant hill, You pin wad help to mend a mill In time o’need While thro’ your pores the dews distil Like amber bead

His knife see Rustic-labour dight, An’ cut you up wi’ ready slight, Trenching your gushing entrails bright Like onie ditch; And then, O what a glorious sight, Warm-reeking, rich!

Then, horn for horn they stretch an’ strive, Deil tak the hindmost, on they drive, Till a’ their weel-swall’d kytes belyve Are bent like drums; Then auld Guidman, maist like to rive Bethankit hums

Is there that owre his French ragout, Or olio that wad staw a sow, Or fricassee wad mak her spew Wi’ perfect sconner, Looks down wi’ sneering, scornfu’ view On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him owre his trash, As feckless as a wither’d rash His spindle-shank a guid whip-lash, His nieve a nit; Thro’ bluidy flood or field to dash, O how unfit!

But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed, The trembling earth resounds his tread, Clap in his walie nieve a blade, He’ll mak it whissle; An’ legs, an’ arms an’ heads will sned, Like taps o’ thrissle

Ye pow’rs wha mak mankind your care, An’ dish them out their bill o’fare, Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware That jaups in luggies; But, if ye wish her gratefu’ pray’r, Gie her a Haggis!

Hell yeah, lovely stuff! Organs taste nice, in fact lamb hearts are one of the nicest meats I've ever cooked. For haggis I usually try to get a proper one, made with sheep rather than pig organs.

EDIT: Thanks for the heads up BTW, completely forgot. Just booked myself a table for a burns night supper

Get them while there fresh from the haggis fields !

BUT NOTHING HAS THAT FRESH KILLED HAGGIS TASTE !!

Will be eating this on Burns Night, whilst watching Braveheart movie, finish off with a Clootie Dumpling & washed doon with plenty Whiskey.
Aye,aye, Scotland is best, aye, always the best, ohhhh aye.

I usually catch them in the wild when I'm hunting in the Glens with my Kilt on.

Due in next Thursday. I have thought it be all over the U.K as I've seen haggis sold all over not just in Scotland. Good Scottish food... however for me being veggie, going pass on this deal.

Has to be Macsween.

I bought a 1lb fresh haggis in Aldi in the past couple of weeks, and I'm reasonably sure that's what I paid for it. It was delicious and it's a great price though.

Yes, Wild Haggis is defo better than the field bred stuff !

Get yourselves down to your local butcher and get a proper fresh one, rather than this mass-produced rubbish.

Thanks! Will keep a look out! I seem to miss it every year.

If they don't have you'll buy something else in there, get down early,I always go on the day the items are in as I find they go quick.

There will be a lot of cheap Haggii this year - the wet Autumn meant they were breeding like crazy, it was like a plague round our way.

Lovely! Food of my northern cousins!
Tastes better with whisky

Prefer Waitrose Haggis, best I found in the far, far, far, south supermarkets (Not.... the horrid veg one).
Otherwise jump on the train to Dumfries, along the Vennel (if still there).
I grill..

you cant beat it with neeps and tatties

Quick, build a wall to stop these foreigners! Yucky stuff.

Great price but yes it has to be Mcsweens. Since moving to London from Edinburgh I am grateful to Costco for stocking Mcsweens. Seen it in some local butchers too which is great.

Couple of recipes would be wrap a heaped desert spoon of haggis in filo pastry and bake. Serve with warmed pouring cream mixed with a splash of whisky. Also nice to score a chicken breast and stuff with haggis, wrap in parma ham and bake. Haggis is a cooked product so you just need to be sure the chicken is cooked.

Would never dream of eating the little fella, I usually just ride mines to work

You've never tasted it, have you?

Some of artisan butchers in the Highland town where I live charge up to £8 a kg for their secret recipe haggis so this is really cheap. Probably not the nice peppery spicy real thing though.

Does anyone know if Lidl sell haggis as I haven't an Aldi near me

If you don't mind paying a bit more I do think the M&S one was rather tasty, made with lamb offal and I think a fiver for a 2lb haggis.

My 3 year old only eats boiled rice, bread, pasta, noodles and any fruit (we've tried everything!) but he loves haggis and........ Olives! :-P Kids :-)

Usually only buy the Halls version but I might give this a try.

Surely if you hunt them with a kilt on they could run up your kilt and ravish your vitals!!

could one eat it as bought or does it have to be cooked?

Most are precooked and just need heating, not sure I'd eat one cold though!

that sounds good - i haven't got an oven.
