i was in Borders today and saw they had a big sale of DVD's
the best of the bunch was the Friends complete series boxsets
they was marked at £12.99 each but had stickers on each one saying 75% off
there was 3 seasons that i saw at this price that i bought which were
Seasons 3, 9 and 10

the others i saw were 50% off such as Seasons 1 and 7

the cashier didnt believe the price too and had to call someone over, and then he confirmed that they was indeed just £3.25 each

so i got 3 seasons of friends for £9.75

Pictures of the DVD Box Sets and the reciept are on Page 2

I thought that you pay your TV licence for BBC channels only, and that the others (ITV, C4, Channel5) are paid for by advertising rights.

Its the only show apart from Sex & the City that I can watch repeats over & over, infact got Friends on E4 now:-D

Didn't realise that!

Three repeats on one channel out of that many shows doesn't seem so bad to me.

I just rang Borders in Oxford, who advised they've got them for £6.50 for every box set, not £3.25 unfortunately.

I have e4 and still dont watch friends, one of the most over-hyped tv shows ever. Why dont they show seinfeld re-runs instead, much funnier!

there was about 3 shelves of these 75% off sets in the Norwich store, they only had about 3 copies of the other 50% discounted seasons

I loved Friends in my early 20's, it was good light-hearted entertainment even if it is too American and really cheesy!

I've got the whole lot on video but as soon as I get the box out the loft I'll be Freecycling them as I don't have a video player, so I'm looking to get the whole lot on DVD as soon as I can find it cheap enough. This would have been ideal if it was the whole set at that price, and if there was a Borders near me! Will keep looking.

Heat & rep added for the effort with scanning etc - ta!

thanks

YES Friends is liberally sprinkled all over E4... but of course these are ad-free!! £3.25 well spent imho.

good deal

I think you got lucky, they are marked up at £6.99 in my local (London Colney) with no discount

Original Poster

well, even if you cant find the 75% off sets, then the 50% ones are still cheaper than anywhere else, cheapest online for any set is about £9

have you checked out my reciept pictures? there is quite a big discount you will find. by the way, £6.50 is a 50% discount on the usual price

I'm talking specifically about my store, all the series were marked as £6.99 with no further discount stickers as yours have.

If you look at your receipts they have manually over-ridden the scanned price of £6.50 put it up to £12.49 and then discounted the 75%.

This is probably someone putting the wrong stickers on the items in your store. I agree £6.99 is still pretty cheap although I'm pretty sure they have been that price at Blockbusters since Christmas.

the cashier did check the price it was marked, and it was confirmed at 75% off, thats why it was honoured. it was no misprice.
if it was one or two dvds at that price then sure that may be a misprice, but there was around 3 shelves of 75%
sure it may not be every store in the UK, but this deal would hopefully help anybody who have a Borders nearby that have these DVDs at these prices such as Norwich.
an example of what i just explained can be found easily, like with one of the hottest deals of today:
]http//ww…in-
there was only about 2 stores with this offer, but its hot because it helped other people find a good deal regardless of the number of people

hope you didn't pay buy card, the two faced muppetts will prob try and charge you back the difference!
(not a serious suggesting)
so borders not only screw up online with pricing & fail to honour, they're now starting instore....

...they're gonna do a woolies

I'm not saying it's not a hot deal, it is hence me having travelled to go and look at them in my local Borders.

I just think that this was specific to your store, and I'd be intrigued to see anyone else manages to find it in any other stores.

sorry that you had a wasted journey, its impossible for me to know if its a nationwide deal or not, so i blame Borders, haha

SuPerNoVi;4079393

He's just saying that the channel is boring as it plays the same stuff. That is true whether you are watching the channel or not, therefore telling him to not watch it is pointless.. I would say lack of variety is an acceptable definition of boring. Cheers.

Yea, but that's irrelevant if you are not allowed to say 'I only watch non-BBC channels, Gov'na!', which you are not. The licence is needed if you own equipment capable of receiving the signal and that equipment is tuned correctly to receive it, I believe. No mention of channels. It should be illegal really. Why haven't I the right only to watch the programs funded by advertisements? There is no reasonable answer to that might-aswell-be-rhetorical question, by the way

Adamo;4079748

LMFAO. Worst mistake evarrrrr on HUKD. Do you know about Tesco's free eye-test deal?

so hang on, has anyone else actually found them at this price?!

well the 50% off is definetly nationwide, as it scans at that price
about the 75% off, i know so far that anyone near Norwich will find them at this price, not sure where else until people confirm
