The Frog Road 58 is a great introduction to the world of drop handlebar bike riding.

This kids’ road bike has 20 inch wheels, an 11 inch alloy frame and forks and weighs just 8.2kg. It suits a child aged around 6 to 8 with an inside leg measurement of 58 to 68cm.

The bike is £299 but Merlin charge a £19.99 1-2 day delivery on bikes.

My children are both lucky to have Islabikes but Frog bikes are also very highly regarded and have very good resale values. They are rarely discounted so there may be a limited quantity.

This is only available in Red.

Great price, as the op states these are rarely discounted
They also hold their value really well when selling on
These are great little bikes and this is a fantastic price. Hot.
Heat added Good value for a great little bike. I have always bought my kids frogs ones second hand though as when I come to sell them on again I don't really lose much money on them. Where as if I bought them new I would still lose quite a bit selling them on.

Might also be worth considering this.........

About £100 cheaper, but still lightweight and good quality.

but not a road bike which the thread is about
lets face it - no kid wants a road bike unless they actually asked for one in which case the no other bike type is really relevant

I looked at it but worked out if you exchange every 18 months like they recommend you end up paying 3/4 the price of a bike and have nothing left at the end of it, whilst the frog biles they supply keep most of their value. If you keep it 30 months then you’ve paid about 20% more for a second hand bike.
Personally, I always prefer Islabike to Frog. Last year, Frog had a trial/match in my child's school to promote. I was not impressed with its quality.

Islabikes hold its value even better when you sell it 2nd hand.

I bought an Islabike secondhand, both kids used it then I sold it for slightly more than I paid for it (excluding eBay fee). Great bikes, last forever.

Wow. Both kids used and still made a profit. I always bought brand new in the past for 3 Islabikes. I will consider your strategy in the future.

Think I was just lucky on that, really! After eBay and PayPal fees (£25!!!) it was a loss, but not by a huge amount.
How much do you pay for an islabike?

I got my twins Wiggins’s bikes and have found these great.

When I bought they had 20% off at Halfords and there was a voucher for another 20%. Combining with vouchers for another 7% or so they worked out at around £120 each (16 inch frame).

Haven’t looked at isla myself as too pricey new, but have seen lots of really small kids riding really well on them.

Girls have always had islabikes and the prices have been going up year on year. Pricing me out.

An Islabike 20 typically (back a few years when I was looking) went for £200-£250 second hand in good condition. They can go for more if they come with the extras such as mud guards.
I lost about £10 on an Islabike thanks to a significant base price increase in the time I owned it. Nice and light but never liked it much.

Now have two frog bikes for my boys and they are a little more robust, which suits my two. I do the bikeclub.co option which works out more expensive overall but I don’t even notice the £10 a month
Had Isla Bikes on the first two for my daughter, really great quality loved them, sold on for the same as I purchased for, couldn't quite stretch to a secondhand Isla Bike on the next one, went for a Frog. Really happy with it, although you can tell the difference in quality (lower), and will look at both for the next size up.

How come my chicken nugget deal, which is hotter, is not a highlight?

It isn't 'just' about temperature, otherwise 'Highlights' would just be a replica of the 'Hot' pages. We like to mix it up a bit. Be patient, I'm sure your Burger King deal will appear on Highlights

Thanks for the feedback. I will refrain from trying to help people in future.
Also, your spelling and grammar is worse than mine. I didn't think that was possible.
Great buy. As already said, these hold their value well.

Unfortunately the road bike variants do not hold their value very well compared with the 'hybrid' versions, especially with 20" wheels. Some kids get into road cycling early, but usually starting on a 24" bike.

Same here. Bought a Cnoc 14 several years ago for £85 (bargain!) and my 3 boys have ridden that bike into the ground. Sold on ebay this summer for £145 + £20 P&P. Pictures and description were very honest so I was surprised to get that much for it but the buyer was happy with what they received.

A Cnoc 14 can be ridden by a 2.5 year old without stabilisers if they have graduated from a balance bike. Biggest challenge is getting the brakes adjusted just right for them.

One of mine is now onto a wiggins chartres 24. After a series of Islabikes I would rate the wiggins better or equal in most areas apart from the front chain ring/guard is an inferior design. I think they are an absolute bargain and all his friends with islabikes/frogs prefer riding his bike at the park, outside school etc.

For those on a budget, there are loads of other islabike copies out there that are very good.
The most impressive is the dawes academy. Apart from the slightly thin paint compared to an islabike, I would say it is equal or better in every way. The academy range has been discontinued but can be picked up cheaply on ebay etc.
Have a look here for some insights : cyclesprog.co.uk/
That's a lot of money for a kids bike. Don't be getting mad when they scratch it. Kids want bikes they can throw on the floor to play a different game.
These are great, thanks +1
