Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5
The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 is a high performance car tyre, developed to deliver a smooth, exacting performance with superior braking in wet conditions.
Goodyear have constructed the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 with a highly refined silica compound - this enhances the grip of the tyre, resulting in short braking distance on both wet and dry roads. The tyre's asymmetric tread pattern, coupled with the

sorted by225/40/18 is the width/aspect ratio/ rim size
R means radial (you won’t see anything other than this on a UK passenger car from this (or most of the last century))
96 is the load index (how much weight between 2 tyres on an axle)
Y is the speed rating (most tyres will be rated to Y at least
XL means extra load, the side wall of the tyres is reinforced, 7 means it’s a run flat
Your tyres are 225/45/19 W
You need Michelin 225/45 R19 96 (W) PILOT SPORT 4 XL * BMW
or Goodyear 225/45 R19 W (96) EAGLE F1 (ASYMMETRIC 3) XL * BMW
In this case the goodyear for the discount (edited)
Took the tyres elsewhere to get fitted with no questions asked, but has made me think again about getting tyres at Costco.
XL reinforced:- kwik-fit.com/tyr…res
Tyre markings:- goodyear.eu/en_…tml
Hope that helps.
You need to put your tyre size or reg in costco.co.uk/tir…rch
R19 is the rim size I think, 96 load rating and W the speed rating. 19" are included in the offer according to the image in the OP's post
You need to be a warehouse member to purchase. (edited)
Got 2x GOODYEAR EFFICIENTGRIP PERFORMANCE 185/60 R15 84H for £55 each fitted*
*assumed cashback is paid. (edited)
I used to think this was normal as well with my experience of Continentals, Pirellis, Nankangs, Uniroyals etc
Currently have a set of Falken Ziex ze310's for about £200 fitted and after 50k miles they still 4.5-5mm left on all corners. Good wet grip on them too. Really surprised me with their performance and longevity. Out of the premium brands, I think Michelin have a good reputation for longevity as well
Not particularly. Michelin Pilot Sport 4 or similar for grip.
There 15” though which are significantly cheaper than what the op has posted anyway
This isn't a deal designed to make you go out and get a membership. It's a deal for members.
I tried the reg checker on the Costco website and they can offer 2 sets, cheapest being Goodyear (mentioned above) for just under £600.
Hate going budget but it’s getting more and more difficult to keep buying decent tyres as they’re getting so expensive.
Thanks again everyone!
I think XL might be a reinforced side wall and W is speed rating (I bought some tyres last week)
I actually found for the size I ordered (elsewhere), a higher speed rating than the originals was a fair bit cheaper. Not sure if you can mix speed ratings if replacing 2, and you must not go lower. (edited)
20k miles is good!
I got 2 x Michelin pilot 4S for £264 fully fitted just over a week ago in this size which are very good tyres. The Goodyear didn't come up when I looked on Costco, but from my research the michelins are better tyres anyway.
Goodyears - in particular the Eagle F1 Asymmetrical range have always been awesome tyres and had them fitted to all my older cars cos of the decent rim protection they provided. For hot hatches they are nearly as good as the Michelin PS4s which my my tyre of choice for the aformentioned Focus RS but I'd certainly have no hesitation fitting the AS5's to any future car nor would I question Costco as fitters due my my own positive experiences with them!
With?
I think she may rather different rubber !!!
But still not great in my experience. I have them on the front of my 4Drive Cupra and can get them to spin in anything less than ideal conditions.
If that’s how it’s spelt on the tyre I’d report the garage to trading standards
The ones you got on are 19 inch, these ones are 17 inch
You're paying far too much. £900 covers me E63 with change. Check out Camskill, they have very good prices on Michelin and have a cashback deal on.
They start at 8mm. 1.6mm is the legal minimum but 3mm is the recommended minimum as grip drops off significantly below that. You're way past half worn. Some cars just eat tyres, or you could try slowing down in the corners! (edited)
Availability is also a factor at the moment. Michelin are moving to the 5 tyre from the Sport 4 so availability of the Sport 4 and the new Sport 5 is patchy.
I see BlackCircles arent even listing the MPS5 in that size currently - surprising given their owned by Michelin.
You're totally right though - its absolutely about trying around all the online offerings if you have a relatively oddball size requirement. The standard bread and butter stuff is usually there or thereabouts in price and even local indies can be competitive on that but with unusual sizes the price variance can be large.
I had to get a full set of MPS4s for my 6 series BMW so 245/40R19 fronts and 275/30R19 rears. My local normally very good indy couldnt compete with the £660 all in for all four fitted and balanced that Blackcircles were doing at the time, but i'm sure if i was to check now it could be Camskills or ASDA who would be best / have stock. I thought that was an amazing price for four premium reputable tyres.
I did note on some of the BMW forums that ASDA were coming in cheap hence why i threw them in to the equation too - good to hear that was borne out in your experience. (edited)
The problem here being they are terrible tyres compared to the Goodyears!
Seconded. Costco are consistently good at this stuff. National Tyres took about 90 minutes to work out how to get the tyres off and on for my rears, and the garage that I chose from Asda Tyres took almost twice that. Costco have never done my rears, but they had my fronts done in under 40 minutes, and also corrected tyre pressures on all four corners.
I think that hits the nail on the head.
These tyres will be great for most cars. If someone is running a high performance variant then like yourself i'd be recommending the Michelin Pilot Sport 4.
I run them all round on our M140i. Had to get one replaced (bad puncture) and funnily they were saying they'd just had a guy in getting a full set on his Focus RS, so they must be known well in your RS circles too.
Yes I spoke to VW they said putting the 45s should not pose a problem but I'm confused there is a lot of space all round might get another opinion. However thank you for that. (edited)
I used Michelin PS4S’s star rated on my M4 and iirc the M2 has similar if not, the same wheels. (edited)
Ring your local store they should have more options.
Thats as cheap as chips for a decent brand set of tyres fitted and balanced.
If the size works for someone its a genuine bargain/
Thanks!
