This is a great value stay for New York in June. Premiera Air has direct flights from Birmingham to New York. This trip is based on leaving on Saturday 9th June and returning on Friday 15th June, giving you 6 nights. It is a budget airline, although you get 10kg of hand luggage each, I've also included one 23kg bag between two as it's £50pp for hold luggage.

Book flights on primeraair.com £583.98

For your accommodation book on chelseasavoynyc.com and when it asks you to sign up for special offers do just that as you can then view discounted rates.

The Chelsea Savoy has good reviews and is located near Times Square. And a bargain price too, it is a single room for 2 people which is $599.34/£444.95 (it's just a double bed so should be fine for two people unless you like to sleep like a star fish!

Total £1028.93/£514.46pp

If those dates don't suit, check out other June dates as there is plenty of availability in May and June.

I don't think you can really compare. It's from London, in February and 4 nights for a family of 4 at £500pp. This is in June, 6 nights for 2 people at just over £500pp.

I managed to get flights last week for New York. 3 adults and 1 child flying from Glasgow 8th June to 13th for just under £300pp
Just need to find a hotel at a reasonable price now 🙄
Looked at Magnuson hotel...it’s around £735.. which includes breakfast. As anyone had any experience staying here?

The hotel isn't actually near times square. That's a good thing really as times square is just Leicester square on acid and chelsea is a much more interesting part of the city.

It says it is walking distance but to be honest I didn't walk anywhere so I'm not sure, I had the week long metro pass which is amazing value.

It doesn't have amazing reviews but you aren't in the room much when in New York. I had a quick look, have you considered the Marrakech? It's £744, but the location is probably a bit better.

Thank you for that! we have considered that one too. I was thinking because the Magnuson included breakfast...is it better to eat breakfast out do you think?x
I guess having breakfast is a bonus, but to be honest I enjoyed trying out lots of different places to eat breakfast in New York, infact it was my favourite meal of the day!

According to the experts on the NYC TripAdvisor forum Hotel Marrakech is a dump so would be best avoided. Same applies to Hotel Pennsylvania which often comes up as a cheaper option.

The Magnuson looks OK but reviews aren't great. As Rachel has said you probably won't be in the room that much but with kids you'll probably want somewhere reasonably comfortable after a long day of sightseeing.

I would suggest posting on the NYC Tripadvisor forum with your dates, nightly budget in $ (remember a lot of places add 15% tax to the price quoted), number of beds needed and mention you're considering the Magnuson.

You'll probably get a few replies telling you you're budget is low but hopefully you'll get some good recommendations. For your budget of around $200 per night they might suggest considering hotels in Long Island City as connections to Manhattan are straightforward and you'll get a better hotel for your budget. Just don't mention AIRBNB as it's mostly illegal in Manhattan and the posters get over excited on that subject

Who did you book with please?
I really want to visit the USA, have done for years but as I have a large family I believed it would be too expensive.
My youngest will be 9 yrs old in 2018 and would worry there would be little for her to enjoy in New York.
Anyone travelled there with kids maybe know more than me?
Btw rachelandgromit you post some brilliant holiday deals.

I am planning to take her to all the usual touristy places. I’ve been twice before but this will be her first(and probably last for a while with all the walking ) xx
