Bit of a niche deal this one as it leaves imminently on 9th January for a family of 4 to Gambia but it's very cheap. Just £705.96 for the whole family including flights, hotel on a B&B basis and transfers and with temperatures just over 30 degrees you can escape the storms heading for the UK. Flights with luggage to Gambia are more than the price of this holiday so if you don't want the accommodation it maybe worth booking it if you just want the flights.

Flights are from Gatwick and you need to use code BOOKIT at checkout.

I just linked it to thomascook.com but it seems to be doing odd things. I'll ask a mod.

Link not working. When I try do a manual search it will not let me search for holidays before the 23rd of January...
Just back from Senegambia resort in Gambia at Xmas. The resort is nice, small option of other restaurants on strip. Hot, friendly, but definitely not everyones cup of tea. Very under developed, pushy people outside resorts, food is average,

About 7 years for me and i concur - weather is brilliant, but expect non-stop harassment when walking down the road or on the beach. On the beach you'll witness young Gambian men doing push-ups in front of elderly British woman, who later will be taking them back to their hotel....old British men with underage Gambian girls. The attitudes of the Gambian people (in the resort areas) are very aggressive and very annoying.
I like cheap sun holidays, but have vouched never to return to Gambia. S**t-hole sums it up perfectly.

Well that's actually exactly what I wanted for my family get away .... how come everyone seems worried about who other people are sleeping with -- on a serious note , is it really that bad ?
love gambia, just have to be aware. Do not like this hotel, stayed here a few years ago. If you are going to gambia go to another hotel.
Gambia is a great birding destination - so I went 5 years ago. You need malaria medication and the people are very pushy because they are very poor. Some people acquire a Gambian "friend" just to keep the other people away. On a hotel's own grounds you are likely to be fine. Unfortunately malaria medication didnt agree with my wife and she couldnt stand the harassment if she tried to go anywhere alone, even across the road to a cafe that TA said was safe from harassment.

Bakotu is the hotel most birders stay at, the (feathered) birds are amazing.

Although there undoubtably is some sex tourism we didnt see a lot of it. We could see the advantage is having a friend to keep the rest away.

I wouldn't recommend taking a female partner (and I'm only certain having a male partner would not go down well). The harassment is relentless and you will not have a moment alone, unless you do what the beach joggers do and wear headphones (no music) just to ward off the local pests.
I went to Jamaica once and you experience similar harassment, but Jamaicans are trying to sell you weed - Gambian's just seem....dopey - they really don't know why they bother tourists. Most blatantly lie "remember me? I'm you're hotel security", just trying to be 'your guide' (for a fee, of course), but others....they just annoy. My wife was in tears the first night of our two week 'holiday'.
Met an older Dutch couple there that were praising Gambia, having been going there for 15 years, staying in a local renting room. A woman claiming to be their maid broke into their room one morning and stole the guys very expensive camera and other items.
So many other places to visit. Gambia is ALWAYS cheap - for a reason.

From my experience, those that can tolerate (or even like) Gambia, have not really travelled much. I like to travel.
I found we (as two females) got hounded a fair bit in Kenya once stepping off the resort. When I stood on a wasp in the resort, a member of male staff pulled the stinging bit out of my foot and then said something like "I looked after you, you marry me now". It was funny at the time. Speaking to some friends from Kenya after its poverty, also when the locals were trying to sell us tours etc, they struggled to understand that many people now book on the Internet in advance.

A firm no or just ignoring people worked in Kenya. Re sex with tourists, seen it in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. Look at the prostitution in Last Vegas and the sex for sale in Amsterdam. I don't agree with it, but it happens. I blame the tourists who continue to pay for it, creating demand.

I've never been to Gambia, but I wouldn't rule it out. Everyone told me Jordan was unsafe and we travelled round independent as two females and felt completely safe. I've just come back from Cuba and in broad daylight in the Old Havana a man in his late 50's approached us, exposed himself masturbating. Yep, unfortunately these things happen in lots of different countries.
