If you have ever wanted to take your family to both New York and Orlando check-out this deal in August school holidays that allows you to see both cities. I have just helped a friend book an almost identical trip for her family, a teenager that has always wanted to go to NY and another daughter who wanted to go to Disney, this may interest those wanting a similar trip. It is likely to be a busy trip combining both cities, so not for the faint hearted!

Flights are with Virgin and you'll arrive into New York on the 18/08. You'll spend 3 nights in NY. There is a great deal on the Chelsea Savoy hotel, just less than half a mile to the Empire state building, right in the heart of Manhattan.

On 21/08 you'll fly to Orlando direct with Delta. You will stay for 9 nights at the Clarion Lake Buenos Vista which has good reviews, a shuttle bus and rates include breakfast.

I would be wary of Omega Flightstore.

youre be atol protected.. I would guess.

You can easily use another agent. There are flights for £1138 for 4 that have a direct Virgin outbound flight with travelpack.com and the same return flight.

I can't get the same price on Omegaflightstore?

Can't go I'm on the banned list damnn u Trump!

Good deal but budget at at least the same again for spending money plus another £1200 to £2000 for theme park tickets if visiting the parks. Still good for school hols though

We did 2 week disney park passes.
1 day 2 park Universal
1 day discovery cove including dolphin encounter
1 day Kennedy Space Center
Not bothering with Busch this time.
For this coming easter. Destroyed the budget, but it's only money.

Another really well thought out deal, great price for the school holidays

If you're not especially fussed with the hotel in particular that you want, I discovered the other day that Hotwire now allow you to book their secret deals for adults + children to get the right sized room - I'm sure used to be just 2 people per room guaranteed, same as Priceline.

Volcano bay water park opens in May. That looks awesome with no waiting around for any of the rides.

I need to try this tactic. Find a cheap flight to anywhere in USA, then get a cheap connecting flight to where I Actually wanna go.

Bloody genius

How is it flights are cheaper with agents than Direct from Virgin?

Not sure, I used ages 9 and 10.

That's just how it is sometimes. Every flight I've ever booked has been cheaper with agents such as budgetair, Expedia, Travelup, Ebookers rather than direct with airlines purely because they are cheaper. I've never had a problem but then I know sometimes peoples experiences are different.

Depends on the agent as some aren't charging it yet properly, but the APD (about £70 tax on a flight) isn't payable until age 16 now. Some will charge it and then either automatically refund it or make you claim it back. The actual fare differences between adults and kids are normally negligible, and most US hotels have plenty of 4-person rooms (2 double beds) as standard, so up to age 15 you should get a good kid price.

Thanks, we got Norwegian flights from Gatwick instead out on 13/8 back 30/8, £1850 including one 20kgs bag. Now going to look at internal flights.

Many thanks

Great deal shame ive not the funds spare to book this myself right now.

Also out of interest after the Orlando stay is finished you need to return on flight to New york and then fly back to Manchester dont you ?

gutted I've already booked summer hols. Portugal is still nice tho.

Wow. This seems like such a good deal. Is there a down side? We were were looking at doing disney next year. Would love to do NY too. It looks like the hotel is central enough to get to Kennedy space centre for a day and one of the crocodile air boat rides too. I don't know USA at all so any other things we should be thinking about please let us know.

I phoned Virgin to ask them this recently, they said its because Agents buy up their flights when they first come out, at a relatively cheaper price then re-sell them later on. Whereas Virgins seats will get more expensive the close you get to the date of flight. (At least thats what they said!)

I don't think there is any downside is putting a trio together yourself, actually even better as you pick the places you want to stay rather than relying on an estate agent selling you places just for commission. It's easy to put together and you can tailor your own trip.

Aren't Omega flight store known for taking the flight bookings and then 2-3 days later phoning to say the flights are now more expensive? Pony up more or cancel and wait weeks for the refund, which is not great if you have already gone and booked hotels, etc etc

Not like booking with the Airline direct where they confirm immediately

Or someone reliable like Expedia, etc etc

Yes you do unfortunately. It does make it a bit of a long day but the alternative is to adjust the flights so perhaps you have a pre and post NY stay if you wanted. Lots of options.

I always think it's useful to show you can get bargain school holiday deals with a bit of creativity and think outside the box of 'typical' European destinations.

I know Universal are thinking of a similar system to fastpass and are testing on the Minions ride, but I would imagine the first few weeks/months in Volcano bay will be mentally busy and queues up the wazoo

If in doubt wait a few days before booking the hotel. I've had them honour very cheap flights before but I've been lucky. When I posted the flights were similar price across all online agents (around £20 maximum difference pp varying across the different agents) so I couldn't see any reason it wouldn't get honoured.

are the parts of the holiday always this cheap, or is the deal here much better than the 'normal' deals you can get?

Im soo naive to how the world works. I thought this tactic was only used with concert/sports tickets.

Very smart money maker from these agents

They're using an electronic wrist decice called Tapu Tapu. The queues are suppose to be virtual. You select the ride and are given a time to come back. Sounds a bit like the old Disney Fastpass Tickets.

You also can't just buy a ticket for Volcano Bay. It has to be a 2 or 3 park ticket.

I got to the payment page and it never asked me to pay for baggage so I presume it is included.

Sounds good in theory, however if the place is busy each ride can only hold so many an hour, so although you're are virtually queueing you're still not getting on many rides.

Cheers for the post generally, I'm not goin this year but am planning on going in 2019 and as a few are going, this is an option I'd not really considered!
