Found 12th Jan
I got a packet of these today which looked intriguing and thought they were worth a try at 25p. I have no idea what they are like but the lady on the till said they were very popular over the Christmas period

Just ate these. Horrendous
They are absolutely no different to any other potato. They are just a purple potato, nothing more & nothing less. Anyone who claims otherwise is lying.

So what colour was an original "just discovered" potato ?

They were transparent but didn't last long as people saw right through them.

What's wrong with them? Do they taste different or are they just dyed purple?

No different to any other potatoes. They are just potatoes that are purple in colour.......Many veg have been modified in colour to suit the eye...Potatoes are the same..Just like carrots are not naturally orange...They are in fact purple as it suited the style of the time...Same with spuds.
Pigmentation See also: List of potato cultivars
Dozens of potato cultivars have been bred specifically for their colors, including gold, red, and blue varieties[46] that contain varying amounts of phytochemicals, including carotenoids for gold/yellow or polyphenols for red or blue cultivars.[47] Carotenoid compounds include provitamin Aalpha-carotene and beta-carotene, which are converted to the essential nutrient, vitamin A, during digestion. Anthocyanins mainly responsible for red or blue pigmentation in potato cultivars do not have nutritional significance, but are used for color variety and consumer appeal.[48] Potatoes have been bioengineered specifically for these pigmentation traits.[49]

The texture is different.

Or maybe I’m just wrong because ‘SixtyFive’ said so. Clearly an expert in potatoes

Wow - informative - thanks vm indeed. I always thought a potato was just that - goes to show how they've been messing
around with natures bounty for yonks!
Bought these in my local Iceland a few months ago from the sale freezer, I had the last bag, but would've chose these over "normal" chips. They taste lovely, nothing wrong with them.
Of course they are special they are the only ones Batman eats!
It's nearly 2am . I'm reading about purple spuds on hot uk deals. Wierd.
Had some of these last year when Iceland were getting rid of them for 25p.
Didn't cook or taste the same as "ordinary" chips they do.
Heat for price
These were sold off 2/3 months ago so I suspect that these will be hard to find....
they serve blue (made from the same potato as these know doubt) potato chips (crisps to you and me) on JetBlue - a US Airline...they are very tasty! ive been trying to find these chips locally, and not a bag to be had!

So pretty served at a Halloween buffet!
Asda have their version of these on clearance at the moment aswell for 75p
Be careful, you might turn purple after overindulging in them, with polka dot pimples... You were warned.
