Fruit Bushes - Aldi Special Buys- 7 Varieties £2.99 each

Found 22nd Mar 2012
Starting Thurs 22 March (Today)

Raspberries, Red Gooseberries, Green Gooseberries, Blackcurrants, Redcurrants, Blueberries, Blackberries

Bushy and developed plants in 2 litre pots. Available in the above varieties.

I am not much of a gardner but saw these and they looked very healthy plants. Would be great to get a bit of fruit at the end of the summer from a spare bit of garden.

Most importantly - these look like good value for money compared with similar plants/bushes in the usual garden centre outlets - so thought worth sharing!

p.s Strawberry plants also £2.99 for 6 ...
Good price, although I prefer the Poundland ones for - Oh, I can't remember.
Yes, I picked up a raspberry plant for £4.99 the other day from local garden centre, then saw one similar in Lidl for less. Price beats them both.
Thanks OP. Bought blackberry and raspberry this morning. They look good! Heat.
I forgot about this and went in the day after. Really wanted 2 blueberry bushes but were all gone. What they had left looked terrible quality so I left empty handed
great thanks any idea how long these are on offer for?
xx
"Blackberry bush" ?? You mean brambles? Good luck keeping those in check after a few years.

Great prices though, might make a trip myself one evening.

Not much of a gardener so question, Can these be grown in pots or do you have to plant them in the garden?
Good deal. Bought red currant and gooseberry last year and took really well. Just starting to show signs of life again.

Garden is preferable but a BIG pot or tub would work.
So, which of the available grows the 'easiest'? i.e. won't die on me, can cope with a touch of abuse?
I bought 6 last year all dead as a dodo now.

The thing is I have relatively greenfingers!
Gooseberries are very forgiving (apart from the thorns!) and grow well with little or no attention. Pruning is a good idea to control them but not essential. Just replaced ours after 40 years.

Thanks for this, I can't get to Aldi until later in the week so I fear I may miss out but good luck to those who manage to get them!!
are they named varieties?

gooseberries are forgiving and can tolerate some shade but!!!! gooseberry sawfly can devastate them in a few days. you will likely need to spray them with pesticide or hand pick off the sawflies.
