A very good price - £5 cheaper than Amazon and only £2 than the refurbished models at Camera World.

you get a little bit more than you pay for in this case. but not a lot.

I had this camera and sold it on within a month or 2 having lost the receipt. In my opinion its not very good at all in terms of handling even normal lighting conditions.

The screen is nice though, and at £99 its an absolute bargain if youdon't mind trying to use the manual settings to get nice shots.

We have this one, takes a good picture BUT it's bulky to carry around with you. Very good price and well worth the money.

Got this camera a few months ago for about £93 and an xd card from ebay...superb camera can't fault it...look at all the reviews out there you will be very hard pushed to fina a bad one!!!

I bouht this camera this year after a post on HUKD for £113 @ Amazon. Reviews are excellent and for £99 you will struggle to get a camera anywhere near this one. Pictures in Auto mode are good. Camera response is excellent.....G8 post OP

Excellent work...am torn between this one and the S6500 (facial recognition software) which ASDA have for £149.99 (with half price bag). Amazon just upped their price to £159.99 though:thinking:

6500 is in a different league

4% Quidco as well

Fuji FinePix S6500FD has SuperCCD with Face Recognition but with 6M Pixels while Fuji FinePix S5700 has got 7M Pixels and comes with CCD. But according to the following reviews S5700 comes very close to S6500FD. Just so you know I don't care much for FD feature.

Price for S5700 is really good which is just attracting my attention.

PS. Has anyone found any Play.com discount vouchers, all of them here are expired.

I don't know about that - most reviews I've read don't seem to give the S6500 a knock-out over the S5700. It is £160 (I couldn't find the £150 offer on Asda) - for about that you can have the Panasonic DMC-FZ8 - stretch £15 more and you're in 18x zoom territory with the S8000fd and Olympus sp-550.
To counter it's 'purple fringing' issues etc. the S5700 doesn't move the lens to zoom, can take SD cards and can zoom with sound in video mode.

I'm looking for a new digital camera for a while now, and this S5700 at this price is attracting my attention. However, the size of the camera does bugs me a little! And I probably will give it a miss for this reason.

I was wondering can someone recommend a more compact camera? Normal daily use, point-and-shoot, that's all I need. And budget around 100 pounds. By the way, another deal from Play.com, Samsung S800, is that any good?

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Wouldn't bother with Samsung for cameras, there'll always be a better option.
Can't really go wrong with Panasonic compacts, this one at Play seems a good deal, £10 cheaper than Amazon.

Or any Fuji F(20, 30, 40, 45, etc) series.

I have just checked and the price has been changed again to £104.99.

Hi again

After my initial enquiry at ASDA re the S6500 (advertised at £149.99 with half-price leather case marked at £29.99) the store rang me back to say they had got one in AND were also giving additional 10% off if you buy before Xmas eve.

On arrival I officially purchased S6500FD for £149.99 MINUS a further 10% making it a nice £135 along with a genuine leather case for half price. Get yourself to ASDA and get one...Good reviews and manual 10x zoom (faster and less battery consumption) with face detection)

This camera is more bulky than a compact, but because of the size of the lens you get next to no shutter lag and far superior photos than a compact.
I have this camera and the photos are almost as good as a DSLR. No compact will produce results as good as this.

Please let me know what ASDA store did you get this from? As I was interested in buying Fuji S5700 but the price has changed to £104.00 @ Amazon. Fuji S6500FD at £135 does sound tempting. If I want to spend more than £150 then I will go for Fuji S9600, that's it. Decisions, decisions...

I got my Fuji FinePix 6500fd from Asda for £134.14 including 10% off (until 24th Dec). They had Fuji camera case at half price as well with this purchase which would cost me around £15 but I didn't buy that. Now only thing I need is 2GB xD card. I'm very happy with my purchase after reading all the reviews. I was going to go for S5700, but mine one is way better than that since they changed the price of S5700 to £105.

ASDA Poole, although from the sticker etc I presumed it was all ASDA stores. Even better was deal included custom leather case for half price (£29.99 reduced to & £14.99) When camera and case were scanned through I still only had to pay £134.99 for both).

Try your luck and push your store to match the Poole branch....Get your card from Amazon or Ebay though as ASDA steep at £49 opposed to £14 ish

Thanks for the reply. I rang them up (Hounslow, West London) to find out that they do have in stock. I went down there but 10% off is only on camera so I paid "£134.10" just for the camera. With case it would have cost me £134.10 (with 10%off ) + 14.99 (half price) = £149.09. But you are saying that you paid £134.99 both for camera & case together. How is it possible? Did I get ripped off?
