The Fuji Finepix S5700 is an advanced camera featuring excellent optics, 7.1 megapixel resolution and ease of use. It gives you as much technical control as you want, while retaining automatic and program modes.
At a glance:
-10x optical zoom, giving an equivalent of 38-380mm
-Large 2.5", 230 000 pixel LCD display with wide view filter so it's easier to share your on-camera images
-1cm macro focusing
-xD or SD card compatibility
-Picture Stabilisation mode, which increases the ISO automatically up to 1600 with minimal noise
-Increase to 7.1 million pixels (over 5 million on the S5600)
-"Real Photo" Processor to deliver first-rate colour reproduction, image sharpness, low noise and excellent tonal response.

Great camera for the price  … Great camera for the price  http://www.cameras.co.uk/reviews/fuji-finepix-s5700.cfm

Blimey he was a little unkind on VFM...still more than happy, I couldn't afford the extra £50 plus the panasonic, and there wasn't much in it.

I bought this camera a while back when it was £111.
This camera is far superior than a compact. With a vast array of user control or auto settings, and no shutter lag that the compacts are plagued with.
Brilliant camera... Brilliant price... Voted HOT.

Amazon are doing this camera for £103.50.
Looks like a great camera, and great price.

Seems ok price ( dixons £104.75 ) good camera though

superb price & specs. looks nice too.

I'm just wondering how long I can make my Panny FZ7 last before feeling the need to upgrade from it. Does all I feel I need a camera to do but must say I feel committed to getting rid of in view of the newer/cheaper specs - but I guess anyone buying this will be saying the same after 3 years too.

I'm a little put off by all the review comments on "purple fringing" - can someone who has one already comment on this - is it noticable on your shots?

Also: If you use one of the 5% codes at Play you can get this for a little cheaper at £101.99

great bag for the price.

damn if it wasn;t xmas i would have bought, can't afford at the mo, great deal though!

The Purple fringing put me off too, if this is the same camera?
I think all these bargain cameras have their faults, I ended up with the FZ7 and although Im happy with it, picture quality was hardly better than an older canon compact.

I have the S5600 and its a fantastic camera for the price. Takes great pictures and far better than the compact I paid £300 about 4 years ago.

Got this camera for £93 from ebay:whistling: ...it is superb!....takes fantastic black n white shots! I've taken loads of photos and have not experienced purple fringing yet! Can't recommend this camera more...I feel like a pro with it!:giggle:

The bags for this camera can be bought from ebay for (theres 2) either just under a tenner or just over a tenner....sellers selling them all the time. I got the under tenner one (which I think is the smaller of the 2) and it is great does what its meant to! I just put 'fuji s5700 bag' in the search!:) or it coulda been case...cannae mind now!!

I got this camera about a month ago (different source, slightly dearer). Great camera although I'm no expert. One important thing for me is it is much easier to hold than the slim-line camera I bought the GF. AFAIK/understand the purple fringing happens in high contrast areas. There is free sw to remove it (see below) but it hasn't bothered me as much as it may bother others so I haven't tried. I read the whole of the brilliant thread linked below before buying and was impressed with results people had got. It also told me I had some learning to do if I wanted the best shots.

This isn't acutally an SLR camera, although it is often quoted as one.

You can get decent compact cameras that perform better, so why buy something so bulky?

Its reduced to £100 for a reason!! This time last year this camera was down to £190 and now its been reduced further. They just aren't selling - I wonder why!!

Complete and utter rubbish.

I'm sure most people have no problem telling this isn't an SLR. It's no bulkier than every other hybrid style superzoom compact and less than half the volume of a typical DSLR. It is also one of a long long line of such cameras from Fuji, all of which have sold well enough to warrant further updates and new models like the newer 5800.

I have an S5000 and the photos from that are far superior to the (6mp) compacts I had before. Feels great in your hands...easy to hold steady for macro shots...

Oh, and excellent OPTICAL zoom....not the inferior digital zoom that most compacts have.

An excellent camera for a bargain price, amazing what you can get for £100 now.

bought this camera about 3 years ago for £300 its superb taken it on holidya few times and picture quality is excellent
good points are it takes xd and compact flash also takes rechargeable aa batteries bought some panasonic ones from 7 day shop with fast world wide 30 mins charger
i am thinking to upgrade to something more compact as its bit bulky for holiday that would be only - point

I used to have an s2800 many years ago. brilliant camera for it's and I'm still amazed how good the pictures look (or a lowly 2MP cam) on screen, when compared to my current panny FZ20 smallish(!!!) travel camera and Nikon D50. I'm sure this one is just as good and a bargain at this price.

Pixmania = £101

does anyone have any idea it will be at this price for as I really want one... but cant quite afford it at the moment!!

These type of camera's are called 'Bridge Camera's' because they bridge the gap of the quality of photo's of an 'DSLR' against the compactness of a 'Compact'.
The problem with compacts is that the lenses are small compared to a DSLR, they struggle to allow enough light into the camera. These bridge camera's have a lens of 46mm diametre, almost as large as a DSLR. This is why the pictures have more quality and no shutter lag.
Although bridge camera's are bulky, but not quite as bulky as a DSLR, you have to decide whether you want superior photographs or compactness.

The easiest thing to do is have both.

Concerning the purple fringing, this can happen with this camera, but only when you take it to its extremes of cababilities. For normal photography you will rarely encounter a problem. You must remember that Bridge camera's are a compromise. If you demand more, you are better off getting a DSLR.

They're 'refurbs', but direct from Fuji and the quality is superb, really as new, everything bagged and sealed. The box does state refurb though to stop them being sold on again as new. Think they have a 6 month warranty.

Have bought 4 cameras from here over the years and never had a problem or complaint. Prices go down over time, so revisit often and bargains can be had, but always compare elsewhere incase you can get a similar price for end of line 'new'.

I unfortunately had abad experience with pixmania, also check the forums.
Delivery on top.
Also sometimes Grey imports.
Thanks

@love_a_bargain: I wouldn't worry about missing a "deal". You can find them from several sources for not much than quoted here.

@others: like I said, me no expert, but I do know that picture quality depends fundamentally on size and quality of the lens... and you won't get this size on an ultra compact. Also don't forget about the video function (with optical zoom!). Combined with low cost SD cards I am quite happy to leave my video camera at home and just take this camera on hols. Re SLR/not SLR, I believe it's referred to as a semi-entry-level-SLR (or maybe "entry-level-semi-SLR" but then we are splitting words, bum, bum). It does have a view finder and although you may wonder what the point is given the LCD, it is useful if the sun is behind you and holding it up to your eye adds further stability while taking a shot.

I bouth this at £111 from amazon and they keep reducing the price .. it was 108 earlier and now I think at 106. 103 is a good price and the camera is superb. Really like it and very easy to use. This is great in both manual and automaic modes.

Thanks - thats great! :-D

I have the FujiFilm Finepix S5600 and I have to say I brought it cheap last year to upgrade from a canon ixus which i'd had for some time and i adore the Fuji, the picture quality is brilliant for a budget camera even works great in night mode for those outside shots ( usless with a normal little cam) and i'd highly recomend Fuji to anyone else, had no problems with it and the battery life is really good unlike with some cameras, This seems like a really good price for a lovely piece of equipment.

The canon ixus 950is produces results comparable to canon's SLRs. I'd recomend the ixus 950is over this camera any day.

I can't name a compact with 10x zoom, but if thats the only attraction to this camera, then I don't see what the fuss is about?

I know no one on here has said this is an SLR, I just thought I would explicitly say it as some sellers, particulary those on eBay, do advertise it as an SLR or SLR "style".

I've had a few cameras in my time and this is the best one by FAR...wish I bought it sooner..and its not that bulky!....compacts are rubbish in my opinion compared to this and would never go back...if you got the spare money...buy it..you won't be disappointed!...10/10 from me!..in fact this sounds stupid but if I had a spare £100 Id buy another just incase my one breaks!
Since buying this camera I've been buying the magazines, computer programs and thinking about doing a course!:giggle: I LOVE IT WITH A PASSION!!!!

The cheapest I can see an Ixus 950is on kelkoo is £180 - so almost twice the price of the Fuji - hardly a comparable product.

I was watching this camera on ebay for 2 months while I decided...not once did I see anyone calling it an SLR....I was reading up on all cameras..trust me I had a headache everynight for 61 days!!..I compared prices etc..all the ins and outs and I finally gave into this one cause it seemed the best around..(at the time!)

If the Ixus 950is is comparable to a DSLR, then why don't you ever see a professional photographer, or even a serious amature photographer, using a compact.
Quite simply... You dont.
No compact will produce quality results like a DSLR will. But a bridge camera such as this Fugi will come close.
