That's basically what it is. A point and shoot camera with a big zoom. I ordered one for a young relative last time it was available, and she seems happy with it.

If you really think a 10 year old is going to be understanding the relevance of bokeh, megapixels, optical zoom and ISO levels yes. Otherwise just stick with Lego and fuzzy felt.
thanks for your replies
is it an SLR?
Anyone personally recommend this camera? Thanks.

No, it's like having one, but without all the fiddly complicated stuff (and you can't changed the lens).

And without the image quality due to sensor size etc. Basically, it's only like one in size (slightly smaller) and shape. Don't get me wrong, for the price and convenience of large zoom without changing lenses, it's good - but not the same.
Oem'd junk from Asia Optics - cold at any price and if intended for 10 year old, 30 year old or whatever year old. You can buy better from a better factory for cheaper with a decent sensor and moreover better software and build quality.

ANy suggestions?
A little canon ixus I suppose will last longer and offer better images, Argos are doing bundles with case and card for 79.99 on some models.

a little canon ixus? are you for real?
totally different class of camera with basically no zoom!
just knew from your leading initial post with no suggestions that you were going to make no real point!

thing is though its not just large zoom its huge zoom, the 35mm equivalent of costs many thousands if even available
and would be many times larger (900mm)
its all about tradeoff and knowing what you are getting

Such low ambitions. I remember developing my own films, under guidance, as a ten year old. Treat them as adults and they'll occasionally surprise you.

Absolutely and if a 10 year old is interested in ISO, depth of field and the like, steer well clear of this camera - of all the Fuji S models it's the worst - does not compare to the rest that are excellent

Damn I'm glad you weren't my parent. I'd have been afraid to listen to Jack and the Beanstalk just in case I was being encouraged to dismiss a solid work ethic and take the easy route to financial impropriety through association with money laundering.

I like you.... but you're gonna have to start making a little bit more sense. oO
bought this. has zoom problems, the image quality is very poor, both when shooting macros and in the distance. am returning it tomorrow.

the LCD screen also came with some busted pixels, which although not that important, but annoying nevertheless.

Sorry but you will get far better sensors in an ixus and better build quality. This is a piece of Oem'd junk that a few people in this thread are stupid enough to take at face value thinking huge zoom equals amazing camera. Read the real experiences of people with this junk. Zoom issues. Poor image quality. I'll forgive your ignorance as you can't help but TRY to look smart.
