Nice little gift idea this morning, the Instax SP-2 portable printer from Fuji. Definitely one for the budding photographer or future Insta-celebs!

The printer allows you to reproduce images direct from your smartphone, via a Wi-Fi connection to produce 62mm x 46mm prints. You can choose from a number of different templates, like collage or split images, or even add celebratory frames and messages.

There's also a pretty cool feature called the Fujifilm Intelligence Filter, which uses "an optimum processing technology, Image Intelligence™" to make dark photos lighter and print-ready.

Just wondring if you knew off hand how much each photo costs in these?

Thanks Mark.

£15 for a pack of 20, so 75p per photo.

OK thanks for that.

My daughter was looking at a camera that prints out directly and it was about the same as that (which I thought was a lot).

I might have to look a bit more and compare things like printing out in a supermarket.

It is expensive, but the point isn't cost. It's about the immediate capturing of the moment in print. The supermarket will be cheaper but not the same.

OK - so it's a portable printer then (sorry I thought it was a small one for home).

Thanks Mark.

No need to apologise bud! I'm not sure, I assume so but in fairness I was referring to my experience with the Polaroid insta cameras I got the other week: Useless for high quality prints, but great fun for shooting and sharing.

Agree they are eye watering in terms of cost though.

I said to my little girl that it would been great at first, but like myself I have a decent camera, but haven't taken that out for years as use the one on my phone (so I said best off we buy her a phone with a decent camera).

For that purpose I would recommend a Canon SELPHY, it can print larger 6"x4" and produces very high quality prints at around 32p per print.

You can also get a battery pack for it if it needs to be portable and it's often on offer in Aldi.

OK thanks for that.

I will look into it (not too worried about being portable, but just easy to use (printing over Bluetooth or WiFi and cheap prints)).
The film is pretty expensive but similarly priced on all formats. Polaroid, Fuji, Kodak.
