I've expired my last post of this deal, as it was 2 months and a bit ago and the price has dropped again.

The other good thing that has changed is that the lens colour you get will match the camera you get - before, it used to be that you'd get a silver 50-230mm either way.
Myself, I prefer all black, to match the other Fuji lenses, and they seem to sell for a marginally better price on evilbay.
They've also changed the postage from £8.99 to £4.99 for some reason, so that's nice, too!

As for this vs the X-A1 and X-M1 - it's the same sensor, but in a better body, with a viewfinder, but no tiltable screen or wifi. Vs the X-A2, the same applies, but the X-A2 gets a marginally better lens, that said, the 16-50mm is still very good. I've had it before, and the 18-55mm, and I'd rather the 16-50 because it's so much more convenient to carry around.

The 50-230mm vs their 55-200mm is another 6 of one and a half dozen of the other - the 55-200mm is faster and has a nicer build, but consequently it's bigger, heavier and doesn't have that extra little bit of reach on the end. The 50-230mm isn't quite as fast, but the stabilisation is just as good, IQ is great, and it's got a bit more reach, all for just shy of half the price.

Basically, this setup, plus a nice prime, like the 27mm or 35mm, make for a really nice all-round camera - it's what I'll be taking on my next holiday, with perhaps only the addition of a Samyang 12mm for wide angles.

Anyway. I've rambled for quite long enough.

paypal12 for the discount!

Thanks to guniosek for spotting another price drop!

Just for price reference:
Second hand at MPB: X-E1 Body £189, 16-50mm £104, 50-230mm £144 = £437 and that's only half the warranty time, and no bag or sd card.
If you want it new, Amazon, for erm... £379 body only... amazon.co.uk/dp/…38Q

Yeah - I ordered one the other week, but it came with a faulty sensor - a big purple band at the bottom at high-iso. After a bit of googling, it seems that this has happened on a few of the new sensors (the old ones, if they do have problems turning purple when being pushed at high-iso, go purple all over, which is a lot easier to deal with). It also randomly wouldn't switch on a few times, which wasn't great. Add that to the waxy skin problem, and I'm going to try to skip that generation of sensors, and wait for the X-E3/X-Pro2/X-T2 etc

The stock levels seem to be going up, they only had 10 left of the old deal when I checked about 3 weeks back, now there's 50 odd on this deal.

Thanks for that. I have a M1 at the moment and thought about upgrading to E2 but I will hold off now!

It's only really worth bearing in mind if you shoot a lot of high-iso or high-iso people. Generally the X-E2 is an improvement on the X-E1, which is an improvement on the X-M1 (even though the M1 came out after it!) - the focus speed, in particular is quite a bit faster.

The problem is I want a viewfinder AND a tiltable screen !

Yeah possibly - I'm debating it at the moment... It's actually not all that much larger than the X-T1 - not quite as long, a few mm taller and a few mm wider because the VF protrudes out the back a bit. Lenses wise there's a little bit of a difference, but not quite as much as I at first expected (the 24-70mm f4 FE looks slightly smaller than the 16-55mm f2.8 which is nice). Can you tell that I might be trying to convince myself? I'm thinking either an A7 or give up on compacts and just go back to a big old DSLR...

This is even less since today

Bah! Good thing they will adjust the price if you already paid at the higher price - shop.fujifilm.co.uk/ter…ons

What's the difference between x-e1 and x-e2 anyway after 3.0

Bigger screen, faster EVF, faster focus, +/-3ev exp compensation vs +/-2ev, seperate buttons for AF-L and AE-L. I think that's about it... It's all mostly little tweaks that all help rather than drastically change everything.
