Great cameras, not as good as the 8000fd, (which i use), in my opinion, but has more pixels, if it performs anywhere near as well you wont go wrong. Easy to setup and use, good battery life, nice size and shape. Would suggest using SD as it performs better i think.

Great camera but a terrible website and you might as well start looking for rocking horse plop

good camera, but the only thing is that it takes 4 AA batteries - but they do last quite long.

awesome camera...the 'macro' mode is one of the best features, and takes some cracking close ups...

The description mentions a battery and charger

I have one of these. Good quality camera. Indoor result is very good.

Being lazy, is it better than the Fuji 5600 or 5700 series?

Details from pc world website state that it is AA batteries that you need and are suppiles with not a rechargable. This is a fantastic camera I got it after being reccomended it by a couple of members and am loving it,

Full specification Benefit
Picture Resolution 10 million pixels Resolution refers to the number of pixels (picture elements) that make up an image. The more pixels will mean a better quality of print
Optical Zoom 12 times magnification Optical zoom is most important. When you move the lens optical zoom magnifies and also maintains the image quality
Motion picture recording YES Allows you to record short video footage with audio
LCD Screen Size 2.7 inches Size of the LCD screen measured diagonally across the screen
LCD Screen YES The LCD on the back of digital cameras is an indispensable help. You can use it to compose your photos and for instant replays of photos you've already taken
Memory Type and SD
Aperture/Shutter priority YES Under the aperture/ shutter priority mode, you select an aperture and the camera chooses an appropriate shutter speed. The main purpose of using this mode is to control the zone of acceptable sharpness
Continous shooting mode YES The camera will continue to take photographs whilst the shutter button is depressed. Ideal for capturing sports events
USB Connection YES These cameras plug directly into a port on your PC with an appropriate USB cable
Video Output YES Allows you to connect from your camera to TV so you can see your pictures on your TV
Digital Zoom 5.7 times magnification Digital zoom uses the "electronic brain" within the camera to digitally zoom in, the higher the digital zoom the closer you can get
Resolution Settings 6 More pixels on the CCD mean a higher-resolution image. Greater resolution translates to bigger, more detailed prints from those images
View Finder Yes An optical viewfinder allows composition without the need for the LCD screen, So saving battery power
Manual Exposure YES This functionality allows you to manually override the exposure
Image modes YES
Manual ISO overrides YES
Multi mode flash YES Allows you to change the flash mode according to the type of shot you are taking
Exposure compensation YES Adjust the exposure compensation according to the level of brightness or darkness in the image and always get the perfect picture
Self timer YES Allows you to set up the camera and get into your own photos
Picture Effects YES Get creative when viewing, recording or playing back your videos and photos with various picture effect modes
Camera Weight 325 g

Did any of the owners of the finepix s8000 camera had the program dial breaking off, something which user reviews said is common for the s8000 model? I had thought about a purchase of the s8000 but this "weak" dial has put me off so far. I wonder if this has been resolved by Fuji.

I'm very tempted by this. I was about to get the Sony A200 but since it would be my first SLR I might as well get a budget one.
Anyone got disappointed by it?

Just to point out - this isn't actually a DSLR. It is a 'standard' digital camera albeit with a large zoom. It is sometime referred to as a 'bridge' camera. somewhere between the two.

The major thing to note is that you cannot change the lens as you would with a DSLR.

This is not any indication of how well it will take a photo.

Thank you for that info, I'm a total photography noob.
Should be fine for my needs though.

I bought mine guessing about a year ago and my dial fell off (s8000) but ebuyer gave me a new one..BUT the camera is awesome, truelly love it!!
My husband has the 5700 and we both love that one too!!

To be honest there is probably a few difference but when we compare our s8000 and s5700 the only thing that we notice is my s8000 is better!!

I have the S5800 10x optic zoom and 8 megapixels, its an excellant camera and i even managed to buy an extra telephoto lens taking the zoom to 25x , it came with an adaptor that screws into the existing lens .
so you can add extra lenses !!!

forgot to mention the video mode is pretty good also!

You can add adittional lenses with the adaptor i have added a 2.5 telephoto to my (s5800 10x optic 8 megapixels)

Im going travelling this summer and want a quality camera to take with me, better than the compact ones
was thinking of a SLR one but I know Id be gutted if i spent loads and lost it or was robbed etc
this looks like a great compromise

VerdictWhile the Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd is an appealingly cute little … VerdictWhile the Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd is an appealingly cute little camera with a huge zoom range for its size, and is relatively simple to use, it lacks a number of important features, most notably image stabilisation. Performance is mediocre at best, and while it performs well in low light it is lacking in final image quality. Whether you're looking for a small cheap zoom camera or a well-specified super-zoom there are better alternatives on the market, several of them other Fujifilm models.

Bought mine last August and it is still in one piece. Excellent camera when the SLR is too much to carry around, now replaced by S8100 (very similar except 10mp instead of 8mp).

Not aware of any 'extra lens/adapter' for the S8000, it would have to fit the decidedly non-standard 38.1mm filter thread. Besides, the 18x zoom pretty much covers the range of focal lengths you would want with a camera like this anyway.

I just bought one last week from Currys for £119 and am very impressed with it. Its feels sturdy and well built and the macro mode is fab. Take some getting used to though after using a compact digital, but I like Fuji...always had them.

I got the adaptor and telephoto lens from a Camera store in Tenerife last year. I asked while on hol about increasing my 10x zoom and found that adaptors/lenses were widely available there at a reasonable price , although one shop did try to charge me 3 x what the others were asking after i enquired at numerous outlets . If i remember correctly i only paid about 30 Euros for the lens and small adaptor that screws inside the exisitng lens boosting my zoom to 25x on my s5800

Fuji doesn't make an adapter for the s1000//s2000/s8000 series because you will get dark corners when you use the wide angle setting. Also, if you put anything on the front of the lens, the weight might effect the function of the zoom motor and mechanism. The flash is also effected with an extended lens and you might get dark patches in your picture when using flash. For all those reasons, Fuji did not develop a lens adapter. You need to be careful if you put anything on the fragile lens.
