I think this is an 'SLR like' camera. True Digital SLR's are indeed much more expensive.
Agreed though that this is a nice camera and price.

>Seems like a cracking price for a fujifilm SLR camera

It is not really an SLR as the lens cannot be changed/removed.

More a "super zoom".

However nothing wrong with super zoom as they are an ideal compromise between a small compact and a large expensive SLR.

I have a Fuji super zoom, about 2 years old, and love it. Mine is the S6500FD

livingroom.org.au/pho…jpg

It may be best to try this out in a shop first to see if it "feels" right in your hands. One Fuji super zoom I looked at a couple of years ago was very small and felt "wrong" in my large mans hands.

This is NOT a SLR camera,ok for the money though.

The s6500 is a much better camera. You can't compare the new "cheapos" to the older s6500 and s9500. The new "breed" is c***p.

I bought 1 of these before xmas and it is a cracking piece of kit

The biggest drawbacks to these bridge cameras are the electronic viewfinder and the slow response.
I had a 6500FD, which was very good to handle but too slow for (eg) motorsport pictures.
After pressing the shutter button there is a second delay before the picture is taken, which is just tooo long.
Swapped it for the cheapest Nikon SLR and am much happier, and the optical viewfinder was a revelation.

I had an older version the S5500 and it was fine for my motorsport pictures. I have also gone upto a dslr and it is far better equipment, but these cameras are great for a lot of people.

I have 2 Fuji cameras.
They're ok...except for gigs with "fancy" lighting.
The light shows at concerts tend to "overcome" the shot when taken without flash.
Don't know if this is with any digicam or just mine?
Unless anyone knows a way round this???

I can't comment on this fuji or the ones you had, however i have the new Fuji S200EXR bridge camera.

]Here's a picture I took (with one) from the Pit at the O2 when I was asked to do a review of UB40s gig there.

It copes very well with the gig lighting as has a relatively fast (from a light point of view) zoom lens (for the money). The response between press and picture is also good. It's even better with the continous shooting modes.

Some cracking photos there Roger

This was around £100 last week so cold for me. Also cold because it only has a 35mm lens and for a camera with super zoom, you would expect it to have an initial wider angle shot

Was £115 delivered last week oviously 2.5% vat added.

But cost twice the price, you have to compare like for like not a £220 camera with a £120 camera.

Comments like that should be justified or ignored.

Finally some good feedback

These wee cameras are really easy to use and take good quality photos for the price. I've got this ones big brother, the s2000, which, I think, is the exact same but with a few extra bells & whistles on it.

They're really comfy to use, not too big as to be a nuisance and the build quality is top notch.

For under £120 you can't go wrong, but for an extra £30 or so I'd definitely recommend upgrading to the s2000.

This is only £115.00 inc delivery brand new, not refurb direct from Fuji using code P258BTCC467 which has been listed several times recently. The S2000HD is £135.00 using same code.

I'm on the Fuji shop site and the S2000HD is showing as £224.78, even with the code...

You sure that's not the refurb price, mate?

"wee"? As in small? Compacts not got north of the border yet?

It's a camera with some merits at a decent price, but small it is not.

For the features it's got crammed into, aye, it is a 'wee' camera. Not as small as a compact but not as big as a full size SLR. They're easily portable and certainly not obtrusive. Infact, when it's in its case, it's not too much bigger than my old Samsung compact plus batteries. I've just checked it and it fits in the palm of my hand.

But if all you've got to post about is your definition of 'wee', then I'll leave you to it.

I got this for xmas....not used it proper yet, cant wait too though!

Would this camera be suitable for photographing very small items such as the detail on earrings etc? If not, can anyone recommend one?

Weird. I tired it again, hit 'Apply Code', the screen refreshed and it still showed £224.

I hit apply code again, the screen refreshed and the price came up as £135. That is an absolute bargain

In case it helps anyone. I have just bought the S2000HD BRAND NEW ( no refurbs in stock) using the code. The cost was £135 with free delivery. ;-)

Thanks to Ayrhoopy your post got me going ;-) First time Ive thanked a Celtic man ;-)

You're welcome. I don't think you'll be disappointed

I paid nearly £200 in August for mine...

Got mine today (S1500).

Having only ever had pocketcams before, I 'm more than impressed with it.
Thanks OP!
