Unlike that AMD Lenovo monstrosity, this actually has some grunt. Heat.

Anything better for under £200?

Seems ok, but not the best processor... and Windows 8... hmmm?

Check the Argos ebay deals, refurbs though

Exceptional price for a brand new Ivybridge architecture laptop.

wow, the price of tech products is going down so fast.

Anytime USB function is a pretty useful feature where you can use the USB ports to charge things even when the laptop is off.

Ordered one for my 10 year old son.
Thank you.

Had one of these and its was ok. quite heavy and doesn't feel the greatest build though

I have a 6 year old HP dv6700 laptop which has an Intel Core2 Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.10GHz processor, 2mb ram and a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 1023MB graphics card with Vista. It's been locking up a lot lately and is especially poor when I try to do any video editing.

Is this Fujitsu going to be a significant enough improvement? I don't play games at all - I'd guess the most power hungry thing I do is the video/photo editing.

Thanks

Decent deal for sub £200. Hot from me.

The intel laptop shown here is a much better deal imo

My other half needs a new laptop. all she does really is watch Netflix online on it and play stuff like the sims. Im guessing this would be ok for that? Can anyone confirm at alI? Don't really want to fork out too much and this seems a good price.

Your T8100 processors scores 1,296:

cpubenchmark.net/cpu…GHz

Celeron 1000M scores 1,815:

cpubenchmark.net/cpu…GHz

So, on CPU power alone, it's about 40% faster, although other system factors will come into play, including GPU, RAM etc. It would no doubt be better, although not significantly so.

This laptop is more than enough for online streaming and playing Sims.

If it is locking up during video editing and it is 6 years old I would suspect it has something to do with dust build up on the heatsink, unless you have cleaned the dust out regularly. Then again I would also feel like getting a new laptop if it has been 6 years :).

Thanks - I do clear out the dust regularly - it doesn't actually turn off or shut down just doesn't seem to be able to cope and can take minutes between key presses

Really tempted by this as my 5 year old Sony is about ready to die.

Grrrrr. HUKD trying to part me with £ again.

I am thinking I ought to buy one. I had bought a Netbook to take on an extended holiday later this year. It's painful to use but does the job and I love the super portability.

Unfortunately I couldn't upgrade the RAM as it's not upgradeable in my model. This leaves things really tight. It has 1Gb memory but 250 is used for the graphics. After W7 is up and running, there is usually 200 mb free.

If it had more memory and just a little more cpu grunt it would be my ideal machine.

This laptop has 4Gb runs w8 and has a non atom based cpu. Oh what to do! Essentially, I am wondering if the I buy this will it be worth it over the Netbook (I could sell it though not sure how much I'd get, it's in Mint Condition).

While it could be a hardware issue, it would be wise to back up all your data & perform a fresh Windows reinstall first.

Much more likely to be the 8400M graphics, this is notorious for failing and requiring a reball to repair. I work for a company that repairs and refurbishes laptops, this is a very common fault with this machine. See DV6700 reball on youtube, DV6000 and DV9000 also suffer this problem, and any laptops of that era that use the same series of GPU.

While I agree with the sentiment, the 1000M is one of the better Celery models, and I've not seen an i3 at the £200 price point for a long time.

Yes, you can get a whole lot more if you can expand your budget by ~60% (£320) and buy a Dell outlet refurb. (i5-3210M, 17" 1600x900, GT 630M)
However if £200 is all you've got to spend, then based on the specs alone this laptop is a good choice.

Can't comment on the build quality though.

first thing i would look at in a laptop that old would be the hard drive,

download and install speed fan, if you go to the SMART tab, select your hardrive and click on the big button this will open a

web page for you with a fitness result of your hard drive, look at
"The overall fitness for this drive is "
"The overall performance for this drive is"
which will be below the table.

if its knackered, replace it with a 2.5 WD black any size, and do a clean install.
this will give you a nice speed boost over the one that came with the laptop, remember to backup your data before removing the drive.
