  • This soap lathers easily and quickly. It builds a very thick and lubricating lather
  • Fantastic, potent and longer lasting scent
  • Very traditional packaging, just for men who loves traditional shaving
  • Gives a close and smooth shave. Leaves the skin very smooth and supple
  • Comes in a box of 12 pcs of Arko shaving soap stick. Value for barbers!!!!

Arko Barber's Shaving Cream stick is the king of the inexpensive soaps.

To use this stuff properly, thoroughly wet your face and rub the stick with a bit of pressure on the stubble until you can see a layer forming (you shouldn't use the stick to build lather).

Then, take a wet brush and build the lather on your face. There's no need for a mug.
Just keep in mind that this stuff requires a bit of water to get going properly. It has the most slippery, effective lather is one that is wet almost to the point of being runny.

The scent is a classic barbershop note.

This soap moisturizes well, lathers well, and provides enough lubrication that you can use it with any of your razors. It does require some fine-tuning as far as figuring out how much water to use when lathering. But it's fantastic stuff -- especially given its price -- once you make it work the way you want.

Agree. I bought three of these last year, still haven’t finished the first stick! Really good stuff though, I recommend it to all my friends. Good find - have some heat.

I dunno, maybe it depends how you look after the sticks (I've read some squish them into a shaving bowl) - boyf used all his in about a year, apparently - he is hairy monkey man, though!

(Edit: He has elaborated a bit and said he's probably used them as soap when he's ran out of shower gel, which accounts for their rapid disappearance - okayyyy)...

I used to pick up Palmolive Soap Sticks whenever I was in Morrisons (around 50p)..mine doesn't seem to sell them any more

Arko is vastly better than the Palmolive stick.

I use Palmolive ones for 50p from my tesco and I find them really good for my skin they dont dry it out. They last me around 6 months.

Will see if I can find them in other supermarkets. I remember seeing a rather panicked Badgerandblade thread informing everyone they were being phased out in the UK (will have to peek at that again) - the Palmolive Stick does have its fans.

A lot seem to like Speick as well (never tried/heard of this one) badgerandblade.com/for…60/

While on holiday in Spain people should look out for La Toja and Lea/Bea soap sticks.

Have to laugh at the description "fantastic, potent and longer lasting scent". The smell is divisive but I've never heard it described as fantastic. Potent toilet perhaps

And sorry but soap lubricates and shields/cushions, it does not give a close shave, that's down to your hardware.

It's a bit confusing finding up-to-date info, apparently there's been rumours about Palmolive Sticks getting discontinued for years, and it never comes to pass. Not sure what to believe.

Wilkos still sell them.

Thanks OP. I'll give these a try

Hot, on my current mileage,

this pack will will last me about 15 years.

buy this & you wont be buying shaving soap for years!

exactly - there is no point in one person buying this many!!

I just use a bar of Cien Olive Oil soap. I cant tell you how long it lasts, because I cannot remember how long ago I started a fresh bar; I know I bought a 4 pack, but I cannot remember if I was still single at the time (married since 2011).

I've seen the Palmolive sticks recently in Wilkinsons

Great timing. I just opened my last stick from a previous order. Thanks.

Shame is smells so horrible.

Christmas stocking fillers - sorted!

Voted Hot but not sure my wife could put up with any more shaving creams or soaps in my collection. Although its cheap personally I prefer to try different scents and brands of shaving cream more often than every 10 years that this lot would last me.

Personally I don't like the smell of this stuff. I also don't like that it contains potassium tallowate (made from animal fat).

bob__b9 h, 19 m ago

Wilkos still sell them.

That's basically being relegated to the retail graveyard. Like all the best crisps, now only found in pound shops.

That's the wife's birthday present sorted. Thanks OP!

Normally its £5 in Turkey. Great product you can use safely.

I got about four of these sticks in turkey about 3 years ago and still haven’t ran out.

Looks as though the £8.99 option is out of stock, though there's another seller with free delivery (no Prime) for £8.95 amazon.co.uk/gp/…new

Edit: Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately my nearest Wilkos is in Coatbridge or something - but I'll try the Tesco Extra next time I'm there (re the elusive Palmolive Shaving Sticks).

A reasonably-near Poundland (Union Street, Glasgow) has been selling these for ages, and boyf really likes them. I know Shaving Cream is love/hate for a lot of people:32302367-Yd58g.jpg(Obviously the one above is the "Classic" variety): "It is made by Fresh up cosmetics in Varna, Bulgaria from the same makers of Kupa, Aspis and Amigo" badgerandblade.com/for…11/
Shavenook says (about the Classic cream above): "...classic smelled soapy..has barbers aroma Lemon-lime"

Apparently you can find it in Savers for 79p - never seen it in there (think they're referring to the Supermax 3 Ultimate/blue box Shaving Cream, though).

The Supermax Blue Diamond Platinum or Titanium DE blades (of which bryanhaines399 mentioned here hotukdeals.com/com…165 and got good feedback from bf) "...are made by Vidyut Metallics in India".

Adding quotes from other threads on this new website is a PITA!

I prefer Derby over ARKO as for me it smells better. Palmolive is good but not so economical as Derby and ARKO. Palmolive is good for travelling because of its smaller size and weight.

I thought I was doing well getting these for around £5 from Amazon Warehouse nearly two years ago Well done!

Yes, Cien is a Lidl own brand name.

I bought a six pack of these on the recommendation of others. Nothing, absolutely nothing, prepared me for the smell. Like the industrial strength disinfectant used in men's toilets. They stank out my flat so badly that I threw them out.

I've heard some say they leave a shaving soap stick unwrapped for a few hours, before squishing in a bowl, to kill off the smell. Never smelt one, so can't comment!

I think the Arko smell divides opinion like marmite. You either like it or you hate it.

Palmolive's available at Asda by the way - 49p a stick

Simply the best shaving soap you can get, stopped using gel's and foams about 6 years ago this gives the best shave, you can shave every day (sometimes I have to shave twice a day) and your skin stays in good condition ,the stick does last a year even with shaving nearly every day

The Palmolive shaving sticks are the modern version of these and around 50p each at wilk

i`ve never found them that smelly, maybe my nose isn't as sensitive

Received mine today in a nice little traditional box, it has a nice smell and you can tell straight away they are good quality. Wrapped a few sticks up for stocking presents for various people, the rest will be for me.

Recommended.
