Full HD WiFi Outdoor Pet and Child Monitoring Camera IQ-31FX £50.97

As you know, I have exact same one from same seller. Not convinced it's "full HD". App provides 640x352; local network 1280.

If you don't need PTZ in an outdoor solution, save £20/£25 and get a bullet version.

hmm, i would have expected more of a full refund from their website and not eBay? [or the same level of service]?

That one you've got is better & a 4x zoom,but £80 more.

I'm looking for a suitable outdoor camera that would offer enough image quality for mounting high up on a building. Would this do the job ?

You obviously haven't shopped on Ebay lately then..
Much better to buy direct with credit card than via eBay and Paypal. Better protection.

Nope.
Doesn't look very good. You really need onvif support to keep it compatible with most apps, and having POE is nice, though using POE splitters can cheat that one slightly. I would go hikvision for the better of the cheap end cameras.

If you purchase from a business seller on Ebay and use Paypal correctly there is no better protection.

OK. I know you lose out on section 75 protection which you get with a credit card (that I've used a few times). Don't have that much experience of items developing faults that I've bought off eBay luckily so haven't needed to try it out.

Acceptable "quality" depends on user expectation, and distance from target. Example: nightvision is rated to 20metres, so likely poor at night beyond 10metres. In general: if monitoring via local network: probably OK. If monitoring remotely: debatable.

Thank you. Are you likely to be able to recognise a person from it ? - ie, their face from about 10 meters high ?

From personal experience as I have this exact item from this seller: accessed via local network during daylight yes; night debatable. Manual snapshot taken from app during day debatable; night: unlikely. Not sure of resolution of images provided by email from motion detection so unable to comment.

Also consider that say half of the price of this camera is attributed to the pan/tilt/zoom functions. If you don't need PTZ you can often find outdoor 720p wireless IP cams fulfilled Amazon in the low £20s, high £30s fulfilled Amazon should raise that to 1080p.

I use ebay all the time & know buyers have all the protection you'll ever need?
what is the next step up from this?
I couldn't find out if this does it or not but I'm looking to set up the camera to record on motion detection remotely via FTP or something similar. I'm looking to set it and forget it (unless I need to check footage etc).
How long will it record onto a micro SD card?

Cheers!

Ebay buyer protection only works for about 30 days I believe. After that any guarantee is not worth the paper it is written on unless the retailer honours it. If you buy direct and use a credit card you stand a better chance of getting it fixed if anything goes wrong, though you need to check your credit card Ts & Cs for min / max value, etc.

Fleabay buyer protection works for a month after that forget it. They don't want to know. - even if they have a guarantee term stated in the detail it isn't worth a jot.

I have this exact item from this seller. From a previous random web search I stumbled across a few config manuals for both PC and the IPcameraHBP app for IOS and Android, where those manuals mention "...You can also upload recorded video to your FTP server..." and "...Push notification: after turn on push notification function, alarm pictures will be saved on to FTP server when alarm triggered..." That 7MB PDF manual is burried in a zip file at szneo.com/use…zip or similar PDF for Windows (with ActiveX?) here or if your Spanish is good, maybe try page 35 onwards here.

PayPal provides buyer protection for disputes opened up to 180days from transaction paypal.com/uk/…ity. My first preference would be to buy direct from UK business if possible; second via ebay and if business / seller not based in UK.

Yet another misinformed consumer - you can claim a refund via Paypal up to 180 days after a purchase.

And I believe your purchase has to be a single transaction over £100 to be fully covered on a credit card and you have no protection at all on a debit card

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section75-protect-your-purchases

Therefore if your buying an item for less than £100 you are actually better protected buying via Ebay and Paypal as long as it from an registered Ebay business seller.

I've been desperately looking for an outdoor Wireless onvif (as in, yes, real onvif and not just the seller saying so) compatible IP cam, but can't seem to find any under 50 let alone 20-30. Any chance of a link?

Not sure how "real onvif" or "claimed onvif" can be differentiated simply from reading a listing. Draw your own conclusions from random examples £24+ dlvd ex-UK ebay.co.uk/itm…574 or fulfilled Amazon circa £27 dlvd amazon.co.uk/dp/…JI/ 1080p £29+ amazon.co.uk/dp/…ZS/ (wired items are a few £s less than wireless).

Well you can't - you have to buy them and try them and then return them when they don't support what they say they do (hence my desperation). 100% of the cheap ONVIF cams I've bought from ebay or Amazon have not supported ONVIF, but of course I could have been unlucky. Generally though it seems that if a cam supports a "smart app" then it probably won't provide ONVIF.

The ask was only if you had actually a real example of a cheap ONVIF cam (perhaps one you bought yourself) for the price you quoted. If not then unfortunately I don't think I'm in a position to believe what a listing says.

OP item connected OK to the Neo HBP windows Pc Super Client v6.0.0.7 sourced from szneo.com/en/…php and that offered various configurable features. I also previously had a number of Amazon-sourced Chinese bullet 720p w/l IP cams that connected similarly to that client (they were around £24 fulfilled Amazon). Consider my requirements are not demanding (the few features I use can be easily provided via smartphone app) so have little experience of any device's extended onvif-related functionality.

One frustrated buyer of random Amazon-fulfilled cam initially wrote a scathing review then conceded the item was in fact onvif compatible. Consider the same device incites massive differences of opinion - one says "Amazing ip camera for the price" but our reviewer states "Worst CCTV camera ever purchased". Price for that item at time of this post is £27.99 fulfilled Amazon, with the scathing review here. Probably indicates nothing more than frustration (possibly due to some innocent ignorance) has a huge impact on a reviewer's opinion.
