BIRD BIRD BIRD BIRD IS THE WORD!

hahaha. Good deal though! Heat

Good film, dominated by the opening scene. A fantastic rant from the drill sergeant. Unforgettable!

What a mind blowingly good deal!

love this film

hot hot hot heat!!!!!

"These are great days we're living, bros. We are jolly green giants, walking the Earth with guns. These people we wasted here today are the finest human beings we will ever know. After we rotate back to the world, we're gonna miss not having anyone around that's worth shooting."

One of the greatest anti war films ever. Shame no world leaders watched it.

It's a very powerful film if that's your thing. I remember watching it in the Cinema when it came out and walking out quite affected by it. Definately watch it...let us know what you think!

Ok i'm with you. Sorry a bit slow
Explains why he does the role so well.

"I'm Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, your senior drill instructor, from now on you will speak only when spoken to, and the first and the last word out of your filthy sewers will be "Sir". Do you maggots understand that?"

i agree, amazing acting by him. and i read on IMDB that he actually had a car crash when filming this movie, and continued acting with a badly injured left arm, now thats cool

...only 1 thing i live forrrr....pooonnn-tannggg...2nd only to Apocalypse Now as far as the genre goes ( imo )

lol, i think FMJ is a different kind of war movie compared to those though, as half of this movie is based on the training involved, which kind of makes it better in a way.
and sure, for the full on war movies then Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down etc are great choices

by the way, nice spam haha

..sorry m8...didn't get the 'by the way, nice spam haha' last bit ?!

British army basic training was much worse in 1984 by a long stretch :x

They never really get these things right in movies - the most accurate military movie I've seen (regarding the British Army) was The Hill (1965) with Sean Connery.

Movies are always way too soft.

Forgot to say that if you like war movies you should check out 9th Company - a movie based on the Russian experience in Afganistan.

It's nothing new - essentially a hybrid of FMJ/Platoon/Hamburger Hill but worth a watch - most commercially successful Russian movie to date

...sheet...yup 4got 'THE HILL'...staff...u r spot on...THAT is a defining movie of the genre indeed gtd65...and nice one re 9th company...will rent it out via lovefilm etc...u v obv know ur stuff so a recommendation from u will b spot on...u x-svcs ( like me ) btw ?

oh and dear Markead...hope ur sugar levels are back up now after some breakfast...prob was a MaccyDee's bfore u started work there this morning...after parking up ur "phukoffbasturdloudassgofasterairfixkittedneonedturbonutterbasturd nova / saxo etc" - with the blacked out windows - of course...i see my learned friend abv is also 'pilot light' and with 341 posts...therefore am assuming i need to get to 500 to change status again...now IF i REALLY cared and bothered do u not think i wud not just check via HUKD ? u Puppet

OK...back to the thread / decent conv...I saw a 'colour' low budget remake of 'How Sleep The Brave' around '85 ( tho can't verify the year of the reel as was a vhs - remember them ? ) and that was v good / well made too

also ( moving slightly off ) love the deliverance / southern comfort type stuff too

'das boot' also anyone ?

first blood....yup...the original / 1st one...ie b4 'yoooo adriannnn' actually started penning the sequels / cashing in...lol

Hi Cheney,
I am ex-army yeah, served 6 years in total, mainly Arty Recon, got out just before the Gulf kicked off first time around . Can't say I ever missed it in the least :whistling:

Have to also recommend "Days of Glory" and I admit to having a lump in my throat watching this movie

Although they passionately battle to defend the motherland, a place they’ve never been, they face inequality and daily humiliation within the French army. These heroes that history forgot won battles throughout Europe before finding themselves alone to defend a small village against a German battalion...

I'm ashamed  to say that I still attended "Church Parade" during my army years (not that it happened very often anyway) as it was simply less "hassle".

During basic we had a chap who had the god part removed from his oath and the amount of problems that caused him would have made for a fantastic court case today! Looking back on it I used to put C.o.S on most forms with a box for religion even although I've had my heathen views since around the age of 5 or 6 from what I remember (i.e. never convinced from day 1).

I believe the most shocking revelation I had was waking to find my grand-dad stuffing presents into my hanging pillowcase as a young lad :w00t:

ha ha ha...lol...take care

btw got 9th co. at 4.99 del'd...with 2 others also wub...on a box set via play/quidco so am well chuffed. ta. also got days of glory via amazon marketplace for 3.21 delv'd so a bargain i say...thought of it better 2 buy than rent as can resell via ebay once watched so get me dosh back etc
