out of interest, is it OK to fast charge a battery? or is it healthier to slow charge it?

I am interested in this as my Civic Type R has been out of action for 3 months and the battery will need charging, i'm wondering about buying this to get it charged rather than risk jump starting it and it not getting enough charge from a drive out, then i'm back to square 1

EDIT : Just read on the reviews for it that it's not possible to charge a fully dead battery, it needs to be jump started! Didn't know that.

"hey everyone, watch me, watch me, I have a honda type r!"

wow, this place get less and less friendly every year.

Dalmore, why do you have to be such a d1ckwad in this instance!?

DO you have a personal issue with the person who wrote the comment? ..can it be interpreted as boastful? ..I cannot see that myself, just grow up, it didn''t merit your attack.

Ordered thanks.
I was going to tell you all it was for my Audi rs4 but I dont want anyone to think I'm boasting. Plus the fact I've only got an old Astra estate.

nice. I was looking for one of these.

But then again I just bought it so the girl at the counter thinks I own a car

Sorry guys I have never owned one before so could someone let me know if it has be to be plugged into main power to charge the battery or it hold the power itself. Thanks.

Thanks OP. Got one.

needs to be plugged into the mains Baz.

Just got in from picking mine up, the girl who went and picked it off the shelf was surprised by the price and went and got a supervisor to check the price haha

Heat thanks for posting OP!
Slow charging is always better, this is HotUKdeals - ask in a different forum for a more polite and knowledgeable answer....
Or use Google...
powertechsystems.eu/en/…es/

It says on the Halfords site that this is not suitable for AGM batteries. How common are AGM batteries - I know I can check my current car battery but am looking to change vehicle soon and want something that will be usefull in years to come as well as being able to use it to help others.

Thanks OP. Just reserved one and going to pick up in an hour time.

Good price, 8amp so should be fairly quick to charge

It's correct that a completely dead battery (ie dead, not flat) will never take a charge, however jump starting will usually get the car started, but it won't then restart if you stop the engine. A completely flat battery should be charged with a charger at the first opportunity if you do jump start it, as unless you go on about a 10hour drive after jumpstarting, the battery simply won't get enough of a charge. A battery's overall service life is quite noticeably reduced if the battery doesn't spend most of it's time being at least 50% charged, so these chargers should pay for themselves over time.

Great stuff, the £2 off code worked for me! Hot hot hot, I just hope it will charge my Ferrari agm battery ;-)

Been looking for one of these to charge my Lamborghini Aventador. My boot mounted 84 inch 4K TV's tend to flatten the battery.

that's good to know, thanks for that. I had no idea it would take that long to get a proper charge in a battery. I'm glad I nipped in before they shut to bag one :-) I better get my battery charged up sooner rather than later. Admittedly I know very little about these but £17.99 does seem reasonable for what it does, plus Quidco tracked :-)

If you have breakdown cover and assuming they come help you in a hour, would this battery charger help in any way? Assuming the car won't car because of low battery, it will take more than an hour to charge it right? Asking to make sure there its useful since it needs to be constantly charged and put in the boot.

Thanks and ordered

Is this deal better than this item which is coming on amazon lightning deals tomorrow at 11am?

It depends what you need it for. The one on Amazon won't charge your battery, but will give it a power boost to start the car.
This one will charge the battery, but will obviously need time to do so.

a question fto the expert please: I got a 4amp charger but not automatic, I forgot the battery charging for about 10 days at least. The battery still works ok to me but have I in some ways ruined it and what are usually the drawbacks in this case? thank you

I might get this in case my Audi A3 Black Edition Quattro needs a charge, although I might also use it for my brand new factory ordered BMW 3 series M Sport x-drive when I get that I January.

WillieGallimore

I just assumed tbh by the fact that it wouldn't start, do you think it may still have some juice just not enough to start? in which case I could grab the battery now and give it a whirl on the charger?
