At FutureLearn, we want to inspire learning for life. We offer a diverse selection of free, high quality online courses from some of the world’s leading universities and other outstanding cultural institutions.

Our aim is to connect learners from all over the globe with high quality educators, and with each other. We believe learning should be an enjoyable, social experience, with plenty of opportunities to discuss what you’ve studied, in order to make fresh discoveries and form new ideas.

Courses are delivered one step at a time, and are accessible on mobile, tablet and desktop, so you can fit learning around your life, rather than your life around learning.

We are a private company wholly owned by the Open University, with the benefit of over 40 years of their experience in distance learning and online education. Our partners include over 20 of the best UK and international universities, as well as institutions with a huge archive of cultural and educational material, including the British Council, the British Library, and the British Museum.

FutureLearn is in beta and the courses we'll be running this year are all pilot courses. This allows us to shape and refine how it all works, using feedback and ideas from our learners. It is important to us to craft a high quality product which is tailored specifically to our learners’ needs, so we want to spend the time listening.

What you’re seeing is the smallest number of features that can deliver our vision for a new form of education. Over the coming months, we’ll be continually releasing new features, refining existing ones and evolving our offer.

So we're looking to our first learners to tell us about their experience of the site and suggest improvements. We include a 'Feedback' tab on the left of every page, so please feel free to click if something occurs to you. Alternatively you can email us at feedback@futurelearn.com. We'll try to respond to as many ideas as we can and will address the most popular suggestions.

Looks interesting. Thanks

Yeah but u don't gain any certificates at the end of the course.....**** in the wind!!!!

Great idea - pity there is no real qualification at the end of each bite size course.
I've given heat because at the end of the day there is a lot to be said for learning, education and knowledge.
I've signed up because there is nothing to lose.

Thanks for this. Just signed up for a course!

I was just about to post this.
Also I thought I mention the rest of the sites I know to offer/collect free courses:

http://vision2learn.net/
http://www.class-central.com/
https://www.udacity.com/
http://www.openculture.com/free_certificate_courses
http://alison.com/

Google dev:

W8 dev:

I hope it helps some.

(You might not get a cert. at the end, but you gain knowledge...)

Hot, hot, hot!

Thank you

FABULOUS POST> MASSIVE THANKS A +++++

Why do u need a qualification.

Hot..Hot..Hot. Just signed up. Those who go cold...well that's the lack of education for you!

Quite fancy THE SECRET POWER OF BRANDS... Cheers!

Another one sided report from the BBC....

....high quality online courses

Ha, Moocs aren't known for their quality, yes it's not new and been running in USA for a while and can be accessed by anyone from the UK (or anywhere) without any registration.

Want to be educated? Read this....

You've signed up to be educated and accuse people of not being educated....you got an F.

Cuz jobs dont be gived to u less u can spel ... an summun else says so

Neither hot, neither cold. Most of the courses are more like popsci articles. They are interesting and help you extend your knowledge about certain areas, but would hardly be useful for you career. Whenever I want to learn about something as ecosystems or branding, I find most articles on Wiki and plenty of other free resources via Google...

Meanwhile Vision2Learn doesn't offer big choice of courses, but they actually teach you work skills and give you NVQ certification which is far better.

Thought this was interesting and have registered for one course. Don't subscribe to the learning for work mindset...understand some people want qualifications but others just enjoy learning about new subjects. This meets the latter requirement although the course subjects are a bit eclectic!

Blud I swear down manz gonna be a lawyer when manz done with this... get manz out of jail for free tho still. U get me fam.

The courses will seem a bit eclectic right now as this is a brand new platforrm and the Universities have only just created their first courses, as time goes by more courses will be added in more subjects areas as the involved Uni's are busy creating new content.

I think it would be better to make degree courses more affordable, rather than offer these types of moocs.

no cert.... no point!

ive been in recruiting and alot of people talk shizzle... yea i studied this yea i studied that... but they cannot prove it.

High end jobs need certs
low end jobs will train you up and you will get job related certs... which makes this shizzle redundant.

These aren't designed to fully qualify you for a job. Did you even look at the site? It's 6/7 week courses requiring 3 hours per week. These just give a taster of what's out there & may start someone studying for a new career/hobby. Think of them as a demo/free trial.

Cheers OP!

I just thought it may be worth a mention, as BBC had a article on it CLICK TO SEE BBC ARTICLE

look if vision2 learn can take the time to give you a cert. then so can these guys... plus have you read it fully??

they are considering a pay for certificate option... so nurrr

thanks op, this will help me brush up on things useful for my job. I'm a nurse and work in a hospice and although I deal with cancer everyday and lots of homework goes into my time reading up about the latest info. I think the two courses they offer will really help me widen my education about it. really pleased thanks

Wot you saying tho fam... u cool?

does anyone know if this is an indefinite offer, or if there is actually an expiration date? I'd love to take advantage of it, but i'm currently studying 2 other courses and wouldn't have time.

Signed up to a couple. Just graduated and struggling to get a job but anything that expands the CV in the mean time can't be a bad thing!
