moto g⁵ plus has been out for a long time, it's the G5S and G5S+ that are getting released soon. Also none of the G models have compass, which is absolutely ridiculous in 2017.
The G5 plus has been available for months for around this price.

Yes, the missing compass is radiculous. Got the previous model and it is all good, except when you need to navigate.
Would buy the next model if they didn't skimp on £1 sensor.

I seriously feel bad for the people who buy this expecting it to function as a normal high end 2017 phone, they're in for a big surprise. #fraudorola

Except it's not a normal high end phone - it's a normal mid range phone (G5+). Or a high end budget phone (G5).

Seconded; I've had the original G and a G3 and been pretty happy (only point of contention been short/irregular official firmware updates), but as someone who frequently uses Maps when walking in unfamiliar towns and cities, the absent compass is a show-stopper for me too.
hmm I clearly got confused didn't see the "S" sorry - at the time I posted it was a better deal for the G5 plus than Id seen here - then when navigating to the moto website got confused
It's a shame that the new G5S and G5S Plus are so overpriced. The G5S is only slightly better than the G5, and it still only features an SD430, but the RRP is £220!

The Moto G is no longer a mid range phone with a budget price, it's now a low end range with mid-range prices.

It could be argued that the Moto C and Moto E4 are better replacements for the older Moto G's. It's just a shame that they use such dodgy processors.
There is far too much fuss being made on here about the lack of a compass.

I have a G4 Plus.

It is so rare that I come to set off on a route and I am not sure wether to go right if left, it is not an issue.

I have probably gone the wrong way for 50 metres twice.

Should they have put one in? Yes.

Is it a reason not to buy the phone? No. Not unless it is critical to you.

Lucky for you I guess, but I've used my G4+ in London and it always struggles to guide me accurately when I'm walking and using Google maps to find a place. On every occasion it will suddenly tell me to turn around after I've walked about 500 feet and the phone's GPS finally realises my true direction. Without a compass the arrow on the map does not point the phone in the direction you need to walk, the arrow is always stuck and you have to move the phone to follow the route on the map.

I'm glad you have no issues and I'm sure many won't, I'm sure it's fine in more open environments but my personal experience shows that it is indeed an utter ball ache not having a compass, that's why I still have another Moto X phone for when I travel and need reliable direction finding.

It's a very curious ommision but their tight fisted beancounters have found another way to shave off 30cents from the build of materials cost.

In your example I can see why for you it would critical.

A few hundred yards in a car is nothing. On foot, it is a nuisance.

Yes sorry I didn't make it clear that in the car I've had no issues with satnav and the lack of compass, it does work as I'd expect but on foot is the real problem.
Currys has had the G5 plus at £229 for a couple of weeks now,
same price now for the G5s plus
